What is Athletes Foot

• Tinea pedis is a fungal infection of the skin of
  the foot.
• Three main types
• Toe web infection
• Moccasin-type infection
• Vesicular Infection

Toe Web Infection

• Most common.
• Occurs between the two smallest toes.
• Begins with
• soft, moist, and pale white
• Worsen
• scaly
• peels
• cracks

Moccasin-Type Infection

• Chronic infection.
• Occur on sole or heel.
• Begin
• irritation, dryness, itching, burning, or scaly
  skin
• Severe
• thickened, scaling, cracked, peeling skin
• even fall out

Vesicular Infection

• Least common.
• Develop blisters between
• toes
• heals
• sole
• top of foot.

What causes Athlete's Foot?

• Dermatophytes
• 35C (warm and moist)
• feed on dead skin cells
• Trichophyton spp
• Trichophyton mentagrophytes
• toe web
• vesicular infection
• Trichophyton rubrum

How is it diagnosed?

• Noticeable symptoms
• severe cracking, scaling, or peeling skin.
• blisters on feet.
• Bacterial infection, including
• increased pain, swelling, redness, tenderness, or
  heat
• red streaks extending from the affected area.

  showers.
