Email Service
  • Nexus is the University name for Microsoft
    Exchange. Email quota is currently 2GB.
  • Spam filters are set to automatically filter
    spam. Spam is sent to a 'junk' folder for
    checking, or to delete immediately.

Classics Centre
  • To gain access to the building you will need your
    University card. Your card should have already
    been registered on the swipe card system. If not
    contact the Lodge.
  • The building is open everyday from 630am until
    1130pm when it has to be vacated and locked by
    security guards.

  • 11 x PCs (Win XP Pro) with internet access and MS
    Office 2003/2007 suite, Antioch, Endnote, Acrobat
    Professional, Adobe Photoshop.
  • 1 x iMac OSX computer with internet access and
    MS Office 2004 suite. Greek Transcoder.
  • A range of installed Greek fonts.
  • Fast 34ppm laser printer capable of printing
    dissertations, PhDs etc.
  • A3/A4 scanning facilities, CD/DVD burning.
  • Networked Photocopier (duplex)
  • Wireless Network.
  • 18 hot desk work spaces.
  • 1 x visitors PC internet access only.

Classics Centre
  • Logging on in the computer room
  • (Access to the Classics Domain)
  • To access the computers in the Graduate study
    area. I have set your account username and
    default password as follows
  • Username wadh2022 (Your Oxford Identity)
  • Password 2265623 (Your Bar Code)
  • Domain CLASSICS
  • The first time you log-in you will be prompted
    to reset your password. Password min 6 characters
    number and capital, we advise setting this
    password to match your email password.
  • Use your M drive for storage not c or My
    documents/desktop

Printing and copying
  • Printing to the photocopier is charged at 4p
    single side 6p for double sided.
  • Printing to the HP Laser is charged at 5p single
    side. This printer cost us more to run than the
    photocopier.
  • Copying is charged at 3p single side 6p double
    sided copy.
  • To unlock the photocopier swipe your university
    card on the copy control unit and enter your pin.
  • Print allowance is 5 per term, and one copy of
    your dissertation/ thesis.
  • To add print credits to your account use the coin
    machine located by the photocopier.

Classics Network
  • Connecting your laptop to the Classics network
  • You need to have installed the latest Windows/Mac
    updates
  • Have anti-virus s/w installed up to date
  • A anti-malware program installed.
  • Provide the IT Officer with the MAC (Media Access
    Control) address of your computer.
  • Turn DHCP on.
  • There are 18 hot-desk spaces equipped with power
    outlets and Ethernet points, all active.

Wireless Network (OWL)

Greek Fonts
  • Everyone should now be using unicode Greek fonts,
    for compatibility across platforms.
  • We have faculty licences for GreekKeys for Mac,
    and Antioch for Windows which are Greek input
    keyboards allowing Greek to be entered through MS
    Word including support for accents and
    breathings. You still need to install a unicode
    Greek font.

  • OUCS can help with backing up your computer, with
    HFS (Hierarchical File Server).

  • Please backup your data. Recovering lost/deleted
    data can be expensive and time consuming.

Rules
  • Please be responsible with your computing.
  • You should familiarise yourself with the
    University rules for IT usage, found at

  • Be aware that peer-to-peer file sharing
    programs like Kazza are forbidden, and may result
    in disconnection or a fine.
  • There are special rules for using Skype, found at
    http//www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/network/voip/skype.xml
  • The use of Skye or any other VOIP software is not
    permitted on the Classics network. Skype/ Iplayer
    should be configured not to run on startup.

Health Safety
  • Universal Computer lab rules apply i.e. No food
    or drink to be consumed in the Graduate computer
    lab. Please set your mobile phone to vibrate and
    answer calls in the lobby or common area.
  • Please take regular breaks every 20-30 min take a
    5-10 minute break to relax your eyes look at
    infinity.
  • Review the seating posture guide located by the
    computers. Adopting good posture/ working
    practise will prevent the risk of developing RSI,
    upper body fatigue, and possible eye strain.
