• We have different types of soil in different
  parts of our country.
• Mountain soil This soil is found on hill-sides
  and mountain slopes. It is made up of sand and
  gravel. This type of soil is found in Jammu and
  Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and hills of
  Uttrakhand.
• Alluvial soil Made up of the silt brought by
  the rivers, this soil is found in plains mostly.
  This soil is good for crops.
• Desert soil Made up of sand, this soil is found
  in the Indian Desert. It is not fertile but if
  manured and watered, it gives good crops of
  millets, pulses, barley oil-seeds and groundnuts.
• Black soil Grayish in color and sticky when
  moist, this soil is formed in the north-western
  parts of the Deccan Plateau.
• Laterite soil Made up of sand and clay, this
  soil is found in the Eastern hills and the Ghats.
  It gives good crops of tea, coffee, groundnuts
  and rubber.
• Red soil Formed from igneous rocks, this soil
  covers most of the Deccan Plateau Karnataka,
  Malwa, Andhra Pradesh Orissa and Tamil Nadu and
  eastern parts of our country.
