Requirements
  • Must be in the 5th academic term or above.
  • Must Not take any courses in the summer school
  • Must Spend 40 continuous days, all of which
    should be in the same establishment.

  • All students who are planning to do summer
    training should attend a two session workshops
    that will be held during the spring semester of
    each year by the summer training coordinator and
    other faculty members.

  • The first session is devoted to giving the
    students all the information that will make their
    summer training experience productive,
    manageable, and organized.
  • The second session will be devoted to report
    writing and format.
  • Attendance to both sessions is a must

  • The summer training booklet format is changed
  • The new booklet is a soft copy booklet, each page
    is titled and chronically dated and should
    contains the summary of the work performed and
    duties assigned for each training day and should
    be signed and stamped by the student immediate
    supervisor

Acceptable Companies to do Industrial Training At
  • The company you choose to do your training at
    should
  • Have at least two professional mechanical
    engineers and at least one of them will supervise
    your work
  • Involved in manufacturing products that is very
    closely related to mechanical engineering such as
    Automotive, airspace, HVAC, Power Plants,
    Factories, Metal working, Petroleum

Unacceptable Companies to Do Industrial Training
At
  • Any company that deals with sales, public
    relations, management, and pure technical work
  • Companies that do not allow trainee to be
    involved in engineering work and work them
    instead in clerical or technical work or any
    other type of work that is not related to
    engineering
  • Examples, Auto parts store, car dealership, EMU
    maintenance department, mechanics shops, etc

  • Bring to your summer training coordinator
    information about the company you are planning to
    do your summer training at
  • Fill in the Form which will be available on

  • type of the manufacturing product of the company
  • number of mechanical engineers in the company

  • Immediate supervisor name and rank, etc
  • Students who do not have any company in mind can
    ask Us to find him one

Application Letter
  • Your summer training coordinator will write an
    official letter to the company of your choice
  • an official acceptance letter must be received by
    me and filed so that it can be included in the
    summer training report

After and During Summer Training
  • Register for ME 400 during the course
    registration period for the Fall semester
  • During registration, submit a written statement
    to your advisor, showing your name/surname,
    student number, and subject of your summer
    training (building construction, road
    construction, factory, etc.).

  • Student during the summer should start writing
    their training report and present initial draft
    copy to their assigned advisor before the
    registration of the fall semester.

  • The student will only be allowed to register for
    ME 400 for the fall term if they present the
    first draft to their advisor and anticipate
    finishing the final report two days prior to the
    deadline for the drop and add registration period
  • Student that do not submit the final report
    before the deadline will be automatically dropped
    out of the course

Presentation Time
  • The oral presentation should be conducted in the
    first month of Fall semester and each students
    jury members should include their report writing
    advisor

Things to Include in your Report
  • Name of the company and its location
  • The structural Map Head of the company, vice
    head, General manger, Divisions, divisions
    mangers, engineers etc
  • What products does the company manufacture?

Things to Include in your Report Contd
  • How the product is produced in chronicle order
    from the inception of ideas to the finished
    products and how does the product evolve through
    each of the companys department and division
  • Company Market share and its local and
    international competitors
  • For the product that you will be involved in,
    include the products descriptions as well as
    photos and manufacturing processes.

Personal Involvement
  • Describe your working conditions and functions
    such as who is your supervisor (include his name
    and his position), other team members or
    coworkers and what their functions to complement
    your function.
  • Chronically, write down your daily work,
    assignments, accomplishments, and team interaction

  • Write what you exactly did there and what
    experiences you gained throughout your training.
  • make a comparison between theory (things you
    learned in the classroom) and practice (things
    you did at the company)
  • Example if you have taken a thermodynamics
    course and your training was conducted at an AC
    company where you worked under a HVAC design
    engineer, then tell us how you used what you
    learned from the thermodynamics course and how
    you applied it in your design calculations or job
    functions

  • Show some work samples that you have conducted at
    the company through graphs, pictures, data,
    drawings, or design calculation so that they can
    be included in your report.
  • Always remember that when you are on your
    training internship you are not only representing
    yourself, but also represent the school, the
    instructors, and other follow students, therefore
    ,try to be the best you can be.

  • Sealed Letter from the Company, written by your
    supervisor or company manager, should be
    presented to the summer training coordinator

Final Advice and Concluding Remarks
  • When you go to a company to do your industrial
    training you are going as an engineer in training
    not student or busboy or secretary or watcher
  • So live up to your name and get involved in
    engineering work and work hard so you can impress
    your supervisors and coworkers
  • Enjoy your Industrial training time and remember
    the next time you are going to be there you will
    be in charge and in a responsible position
