• completely submerged

• where motivation comes from
• bundle of needs/wants
• Pleasure Principle - guides Id

• develops because Id wants more and solves Id's
  problems
• means "self" in Greek
• rational thought process
• works in reality
• doesn't consider issues of morality
• works based on punishment and reinforcement

• a big part is unconscious
