  • Writing is a very important skill in life.
  • As an educated person, you will need these skills
    more and more as you grow up.
  • AP classes will require you to write! Get used
    to it! Its going to happen dont fight the
    inevitable.

Writing Tips
  • When writingpretend that this is English class.
    Youll be graded accordingly.
  • Use correct grammar
  • Use complete sentences
  • Use proper mechanics
  • Spell words properly
  • Dont know how to spell them? Look them up! It is
    called a dictionary! Use it!

  • When writing B.S.
  • BE SPECIFIC! (get your minds out of the gutter!)
  • Go into detail!
  • Imagine that your audience does not know anything
    about what you are talking about!
  • It is your job to educate your audience about the
    subject.

  • ANSWER THE QUESTION THAT YOU ARE ASKED!!!
  • Opinions and assertions are not supposed to be
    used unless they are backed up by hard facts.
  • This is not the editorial section of the
    newspaper. A professional piece of writing in
    social studies requires analysis and facts.

  • Take your time. It is NOT a race.
  • Do not regurgitate information onto the page.
  • Put thought into what youre writing.
  • Organize it!
  • Like a math equation

  • Each body paragraph or topic
  • 3 facts analysis per topic
  • Refrain from using first person (I, me, etc) and
    second person (you)
  • Refrain from using contractions (cant, wont,
    etc)

Introduction Paragraphs
  • Begin with a thesis
  • A good essay has a good thesis.
  • A good thesis answers the specific question in
    the prompt.
  • It is essentially a road map of where your essay
    will go.

  • When writing in Social Studies, it is a little
    different than English
  • You will have to separate the two.
  • Good thesis statements
  • Prompt The Civil War was fought due to a variety
    of reasons. Discuss why the difference between
    the North and the South.

  • The Civil War was fought for a variety of reasons
    including the differences in ideology of the
    North and the South in regards to slavery. Also,
    the idea of states rights further worsened the
    relationship between the two sides.

Cheating Plagiarism
  • Cheating, including plagiarism, is academic
    suicide.
  • If you do it, you will be exited from the Pre-AP
    program.
  • Other consequences will also apply.
  • Simply put, dont let it happen to you!
