3The Gap in our Public AwarenessEfforts - - -
Reaching schools that were located near our
pipeline systemTo bridge this gap we
implemented aTEACHER AWARENESS PROGRAM(now in
our 4th year)
4QUICK VERSION
- Used ½ mile radius as our guideline
- Contacted Offices of affected schools during
summer - Set up meeting in the weeks before school starts
(during teacher in-service meetings) to avoid
student issues - Had to be flexible to meet each school in their
time window - breakfast, lunch, afternoon meeting in one day
in three different towns - two shows _at_ two different schools at same time
5Program Setup
- As teachers entered the meeting room, they were
given a 5x7 card. - One side had a pre-meeting questionnaire to be
taken before the presentation - The other side of the card was to be filled after
the presentation - In order to qualify for the door prizes, cards
had to be turned in (100 participation). - At the end of the meeting, Targa provided all
attendees with thank you gifts.
6What the Teachers Got from Targa
- A catered Lunch (or breakfast or snack)
- Door prizes
- Generally 25 each
- Gift cards to Sonic, Applebees, Chilis, and
movies - Contact names numbers for Targa personnel

teachers with information about the pipelines,
how to recognize a leak and what to do in an
emergency - Informed about the One Call Notification System
the new 811 Program (many were unaware of the
program)
