Title: Transformer Fin Heat Transfer

Transformer Fin Heat Transfer
  • ME 340-2, Dr. soloviev
  • Jared bruton
  • Final project

2
Introduction
  • Fins are a useful way to increase heat transfer
    with minimal increase in volume
  • There is evidence suggesting that even dinosaurs
    used fins for heat transfer
  • Fins transfer heat either through free or forced
    convection
  • A transformer found outside a church building
with fins on it was modeled for this project

Objectives
  • This project seeks to find out how much larger a
transformer would have to be without fins to
transfer the same amount of heat flux
  • Modeled using free convection of air

Problem Setup
  • 18 total fins
  • Fin Dimensions 0.1969x0.0127x0.9144 m
  • Overall Dimensions
