Peace with England
  • Due to the increased immigration, the levels of
    population and diversity in the thirteen colonies
    amplified during the mid-1700s.
  • The early 1730s became the era known as The
    Great Awakening American colonists challenged
    authority and grew a sense of independence.
  • At about the same time as this era of
    individualism, scientists learned to use reason
    and observation to heighten their learning?
  • Because England was 3000 miles away from the
    American colonies, communication and authority
    was difficult to enforce. (England was
    preoccupied with its own problems)

  • Due to the increased immigration, the levels of
    population and diversity in the thirteen colonies
    amplified during the mid-1700s.
  • The early 1730s became the era known as The
    Great Awakening American colonists challenged
    authority and grew a sense of independence.
  • At about the same time as this era of
    individualism, scientists learned to use reason
    and observation to heighten their learning.
  • Because England was 3,000 miles away from the
    American colonies, communication and authority
    was difficult to enforce. (England was
    preoccupied with its own problems.)

Conflict with the Crown (part 1)
  • France and Britain fought over the lustrous Ohio
    River Valley in the French and Indian War
    eventually, the English and the colonists
    received the area from the Treaty of Paris.
  • Although the colonies doubled in size, King
    George III, the sovereign of England, prohibited
    the colonists from settling west of the
    Appalachian Mountains with the Proclamation of
    1763.
  • In the five years before 1770, Britain
    established the quartering, stamp, and Townshed
    acts (all acts that limited the colonistss
    civil liberties).
  • In 1700, the vital unification of the 13 colonies
    courtesy of Sam Adams led the colonies through
    the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party.

  • The Battle of Bunker Hill was a major morale
    booster for the waning patriots in January of
    1776, Thomas Paine, a British author wrote Common
    Sense, a booklet urging the colonists to rebel
    for freedom.
  • In July of 1776, the Declaration of Independence
    was written to attain their freedom from
    Britains harsh rule. (It was stolen by Nicholas
    Cage in National Treasure 1.) Give me liberty
    or give me death was declared by Patrick Henry.
    John Hancock signed the largest on this document
    that made America a country. D
  • Difficult times included Valley Forge and the
    brutal winter of 1776, though French support
    ultimately won the revolution?
