    Rachel)
  • Given a coat of many colors (symbol of power and
    nobility)
  • Had the power to interpret dreams
  • Predicted that his brothers would one day bow
    down to him

Joseph and His Brothers
  • Brothers were jealous of Joseph
  • Threw Joseph in a well
  • Sold into Egyptian slavery by brothers
  • Brothers told Jacob he was killed and eaten by a
    wild animal

In Egypt
  • Sold to the house of Potiphar (important Egyptian
    official)
  • Became head servant of Potiphars house
  • Potiphars wife tried to seduce Joseph but he
    resisted her advances
  • She accused him of assaulting her because of his
    rejection

  • Joseph was put in jail (became the head of the
    jail)
  • In jail he met the Pharaohs baker and butler
  • Interpreted their dreams for them

Butlers and Bakers Dreams
  • Bakers dreamed he was attacked by birds
  • Baker would be executed
  • Butler dreamed he was serving the Pharaoh again
  • Butler would be returned to his place in the
    palace (Joseph asked him to remember him)
  • Butler forgot about Joseph until the Pharaoh had
    a dream no one could interpret

  • Seven healthy cows eaten by seven sick cows
  • Seven healthy ears of corn (wheat) took over by
    seven bad ears
  • Joseph said the dream was predicting 7 good
    harvest years and 7 years of severe famine

  • Egypt was the only nation to have food during the
    famine
