Abraham Lincoln Become the 16th President of
the United States.
  • Abraham Lincoln was against slavery in the
    United Stats.
  • This was one of the leading cases of the American
    Civil was because the southern stat relied on
    slavery as a major sores of income.

Fort Sumter Attack
  • Apr 12, 1861 the Confederates opened fire one
    Fort Sumter.
  • This was the first attack that started Civil war.

First Bull Run
  • The Union Amy under the command of Irvin McDowell
    suffered a defeat at Bull Run.
  • This was the first major ground battle of the
    civil war.

Shiloh
  • Apr 6/7 1862
  • Surprise attack by the Confederates on General
    Ulysses S. Grant
  • The death count of this battle was greater that
    all previous American battle combined.

Second Battle of Bull Run
  • Aug 29/30, 1862
  • 75, 000 Federals are defeated by 55, 000
    Confederate.
  • Once more the Union army retreats to Washington.

  • Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863,
    declaring that all slaves in areas still in
    rebellion were, in the eyes of the federal
    government, free.

    Battle of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania

  • April 9, 1865 - Gen. Robert E. Lee surrenders his
    Confederate Army to Ulysses S. Grant.

  • During the third act of the play Our American
    Cousin Abraham Lincoln was shot in the back of
    his head by John Wilkes Booth.
  • Lincoln died the next morning at 722
  • Vice President Andrew Johnson assumes the
    presidency.

End of Civil War
  • May 4, 1865 - Abraham Lincoln is laid to rest in
    Oak Ridge Cemetery, outside Springfield, Illinois
  • Remaining Confederate forces surrender.
  • Dec 6, 1865 - The Thirteenth Amendment to the
    United States Constitution, passed by Congress on
    January 31, 1865, is finally ratified. Slavery is
    abolished.
