Title: Linear Collider TPC R

1
Tsinghua U.January 2010Experience with LEP
and its meaning for the Linear Collider
Ron Settles MPI-Munich
2
  • Outline of talks
  • 1 What physics do we want to do, where?
  • 2a,b What is the best detector?
  • 3 The LCTPC
  • 4 Machine and global issues

3
  • Talk 2b
  • What is the best detector?

4
Best detector? The
starting point
5
Now we shall take a look at the subdetectors

  • TPC Performance goals. RD question
  • How was the subdetector optimized?
  • ILD subdetectors must be optimized coherently by
present optimization studies, ? for the TPC, this
    means

Inner Detectors ? back to Machine since this is
complicated real-estate where MDI, machine and
detector elements are critical
14
Each part of FD cryostats will have movers to
align Cryostats as a whole(?), And support parts
of FD Cryostats may need to be equipped with
optical or mechanical lock-in systems, to
minimize their relative motion on nm level.

Combination of detector and machine
elements.Detector view of MDI? Nanobeam02 paper
Many very correlated tasks!!
21
In preparing this talk, I noticed the different
ways to categorize
Karsten Buesser CLIC talk
Nanobeam 02 paper
vibration, optics, instrumentatn,background,
engineering
Andrei Seryi IRENG07
Yasuhiro Sugimoto, Toshiaki Tauchi, Karsten
Buesser et al ILD MDI/Integration list
  1. IR issues/tasks
  2. Detector Integration tasks
  3. Push-pull issues/tasks

Many subitems under each point, my favorite
brkdown?
22
Combining MDI/Integration makes a lot of sense,
as the IRENG07 workshop, the ILD task list and
Andreis/Toshiakis lists today show, maybe
something like
  • Vibrationdethall design to avoid unwanted
    (µm-mm!) vibrations
  • Opticsmachine, BDS design/layout (details in
    Andreis and Toshiakis talks today)
  • Instrumentation/diagnosticsfast feedback,beamcal
    e.g.
  • Backgroundbeam induced bgrd,inner detector
    design
  • Engineering
  • Detector design/integration
  • MDI magnets (antiDID)
  • IR hall/push-pull design (Andreis talk today)
  • Shielding
  • Etc

23
LOI, remaining points
