1. History of contacts with PROSAFE

• 2007 first contact with PROSAFE
• December 2009 meeting in Brussels with PROSAFE
  representative and discussion on possible
  co-operation in market surveillance field
• April 2010 presentation of the work of UNECE to
  PROSAFE management team in Malta
• UNECE proposed sampling procedure was discussed

1. History of contacts with PROSAFE

• July 2010 UNECE Stockholm meeting
• Meeting agreed to ask data to ICSMS for checking
  the sampling procedure up to now NO reaction of
  ICSMS (!)
• September 2010 PROSAFE suggests to cooperate
  with UNECE in their lighters project so to
  check the sampling procedure
• But. issue is finding funds to collaborate with
  the PROSAFE lighters project

2. Current work of PROSAFE

• 4 interesting tasks that may be relevant for
  UNECE
• Task A that develops guidelines for applying the
  best practices book to all different sorts of
  products and processes. Sampling is of course one
  of the activities to consider.
• Task B that develops guidelines for running
  joint actions. Again, sampling is one issue to
  consider.

• 2. Current work of PROSAFE

• Task C works with risk assessment methods.
  PROSAFE will organize a risk assessment seminar
  during the European Product Safety week last
  week of November. The Risk Assessment Seminar
  will be 3rd of December.
• Task F is about continuous improvement. It would
  also include activities to continue the
  development of market surveillance procedures
  (e.g. sampling).

3. Some observations

• The number of stakeholders participating to the
  Malta PROSAFE was 1 (one).
• Does PROSAFE have a policy for stakeholder
  participation ?
• PROSAFE management recognizes the importance of
  the appropriate use of data in MS actions
  (statistics clear procedures)

5. Possible way forward

• Co-operation of UNECE MARS with PROSAFE seems
  possible, but still it is not happening so far
• Does anyone has any idea how to proceed?
