Why the Middle School Initiative?

  initiative
• middle school membership system
• middle school fall leadership conference
• middle school only competitions
• etc.
• This is part of the SkillsUSA evolution

Engaging Students in Their Career Pathways

• Research shows, engaging young people at a
  younger age is good for career development
• Some chapters/advisors have been, or want to
  engage their future members at a younger age
• This is a natural lead-in to the high school CTE
  and SkillsUSA experience
• Other student organizations have developed a
  middle school programming component

The Opportunities

• We already have ten states who are engaging
  middle level students
• As a national organization, we have an
  opportunity to provide consistent structure to
  middle level programming
• Messaging
• Resources
• We have an opportunity to recognize middle school
  members as full members, which means they get all
  the same benefits as every SkillsUSA member
• We have an opportunity to provide leadership at
  the national level for all state associations

  a middle school presence, as a professional
  organization we need to service those members

• Just as with the high school and post-secondary
  divisions, middle school chapters will be an
  option for states to consider
• This is simply on the menu for states to
  consider implementing
• Other CTSOs have middle school programming
