• Became a military fortification just before the
  War of 1812

• From 1892-1954, twelve million immigrants enter
  America through Ellis Island
• Annie Moore, a 15 year old Irish girl was the
  first person to be processed at Ellis Island

The Process

• People were taken from the ships by ferry to
  Ellis Island
• Immigrants had the papers inspected and health
  checked
• Only 2 of immigrants were not allowed to enter
  the U.S.
