making my job great! I am proud to call Dublin
home and to be a part of making this a great
place to live and I appreciate the all of you!

7th Grade Content Standards
  • We will follow content standards for 7th grade
    science.
  • As we move into NGSS (Next Generation Science
    Standards), an engineering component will focus
    on
  • constructing explanations using claim, evidence,
    and reasoning designing solutions (and labs)

In our class, we focus on
  • Critical thinking and the scientific method
  • -reading and understanding science-based texts,
    making models, constructing explanations and
    designing solutions, supporting conclusions with
    evidence, reflection (Science as a way
    of thinking.)
  • Science-based skills
  • -using the scientific method, measuring and
    using scientific tools, lab safety, keeping a
    science notebook, lab write up (Science as way of
    exploring the world and engineering.)
  • Participating in a Learning Community
  • Educating students on how to interact
    responsibly and kindly with others to build
    respectful and caring communities. (Science (and
    life) as a collaborative process.)

What is Life Science?

Health Component
Seventh grade science health covers drug
prevention of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
Some of this material is integrated into our
curriculum. The bulk of the material comes from
Project Alert. All materials are available for
review in the office.

Grading
Grades will be posted via
infinite
campus. Grading Weights   Assessments 55
projects, performance assessments, quizzes,
and tests Labs 20 Daily work 25 classwork,
homework, science notebook                    
                           Students can retake
tests in AP for up to 75 credit. Additional
work will be required before retakes. Students
may have to demonstrate additional studying or
review work is completed. Letter grades will be
based on the following scale A (100-90) B
(89-80) C (79-70)D (69-50)F (50)

  • Internet-based program where parents and student
    can check their progress
  • Check this often for test, homework, and
    participation scores

Daily Work and Homework
  • HW Students will be expected to regularly take
    notes or complete their reading and note-taking
    guides.
  • They will be using the Cornell System.
    Directions are on the website.
  • Work is scored based on timeliness and effort,
    not correctness. The following rubric is used
  • 4  Work complete Corrections complete with few
    concerns. (Top Stamp)
  • 3 Work complete Corrections complete but late
    without a pass.
  • 3 Work complete Corrections incomplete or
    missing.
  • 2 Work 70 complete Corrections complete
    with few issues. 
  • 1 Work 50 complete. (Bottom Stamp)
  • 0 Work is missing or less than 50 complete. (No
    stamp)

Make-Up Work Absences
  • -Students are responsible for making up missed
    work immediately on their return after an
    absence. Students can follow along on the website
    to keep up after extended absences.
  • -Students get one day for every day that they are
    absent to turn in the missed work.
  • -Tests and assignments, if assigned before an
    absence, should be completed upon the day of your
    return.
  • -Consult classmates and teacher website for the
    missed daily question, homework and
    notes/assignments.

Late or Missing Work 
  • Late work   Students are allowed two late passes
    per quarter for the first three quarters, and one
    late pass for the final quarter.
  • Any late work beyond this may only receive up to
    70. Late passes do not count on Science
    Notebook checks.
  • Late work may not be counted towards a grade one
    week before grades are due unless a prior
    arrangement has been made.
  • Lost assignments should be re-printed from the
    schoolwires site.
  • Late missing assignments are marked in the
    gradebook.
  • If students have more than 3 missing assignments,
    a student / teacher conference is strongly
    suggested.

Missed Labs
  • .
  • If an entire lab is missing, to receive credit,
    students should complete one of two make-up
    options
  • 1. Get the data and complete the work outside of
    regular class-time or...
  • Write a summary (1/2 page typed for most
    assignments) explaining what the class did and
    what students were to learn from the activity.
  • Please check with the teacher regarding which
    type of make-up will be expected.

    Items used in 7th grade science include

  • What I know The best path to success is great
  • communication between the teacher and the
    students families or guardians. If I see reasons
    for concern, I call as soon as I can.
  • Notes, letters, and e-mails are all welcome!
