Title: Chapter 5 Reskin

1
Chapter 5 Reskin
  • Moving Up and Taking Charge

2
  • Sex/race segregation in the workplace has obvious
affects on wage differences, however it also has
    affects on job mobility.

3
  • Only a handful of white women/people of color
still reach the top of a work hierarchy. This is
intriguing given the popular discourse today (Dr.
Leonard Sax) which states that white boys are
less motivated than other girls. His study also
finds that girls do better in school and better
on tests. SO why are white boys still more
    successful in paid work?

4
Promotion and Authority Gap
  • What is the difference between promotion and
    authority?

5
  • White Women/ People of Color fare better in the
public sector than private sector. Even so,
    there still exists
  • Glass Ceiling for white women/people of color and
    Glass Elevator for white men...
  • Sticky Floor.

6
Consequences of Promotion/Authority Gap
  • Why should we care that there is a promotion gap?
  • Its discriminatory not to allow people equal
