4FOREST MANAGEMENT
The scientific study of forests is referred to as
forest ecology, while the management of forests
is often referred to as forestry
Forests can be altered when logging,
forest fires, acid rain, cause damage to trees.
In the United States, most forests have
historically been affected by humans to some
degree
5DEFORESTATION
Deforestation is the conversion of forested areas
to non-forest land use such as arable land, urban
use, logged area or wasteland.
The largest cause as of 2006 is slash-and-burn
activity in tropical forests. Slash-and-burn is a
method sometimes used by shifting cultivators to
create short term yields from marginal soils.
