CII And Environment
  • CII introduces the LEED-India green building
    rating system.
  • CII has been extensively advocating green
buildings, has adopted the US green building
codes and is now in the process of adopting the
    codes for India.
  • Indian LEED standards had been recently launched
and would come into effect from January 2007.
  • Some Green Buildings In India are Chennai Tech
Park Ashok Leyland, RMZ Millennium II, LT ECC
and Rane Institute for Employee Development
    training centre.

17
Criteria For Green Building Certificate
  • An aspiring building is evaluated under six
categories before it is certified as a green
    building.
  • Human and environmental health
  • Sustainable site development
  • Water saving
  • Energy efficiency
  • Materials selection
  • And indoor environmental quality.

18
  • Platinum is the highest amongst the ratings.
Platinum, gold and silver ratings are benchmarks.
  • This bench marking is called Leadership in Energy
    and Environmental Design or LEED.
  • Many multinationals and corporate offices are
    increasingly seeking green buildings
certification to improve their brand value and
    image.
  • These buildings have substantial economic and
environment advantages over others. They save on
energy and water and facilitate efficient
    construction waste management.
  • The whole process of green building certification
costs range between Rs.12 lakhs and Rs.20 lakhs
and it is a considerable investment for small
developers but many multinationals and corporate
offices realize the advantages and prefer to be
    associated with eco-friendly policies.

19
Advocacy for Agriculture
  • Growth of economy in India is dependent on growth
in agriculture. It should therefore not be much
of surprise that CII has a strong focus on the
    agriculture sector.
  • Recommended rationalization of subsidies inorder
to spend more on infrastructure development.
  • For Strengthening of credit facilities and
greater involvement of industry in agriculture
    through incentives for biotechnology, packaging
    ,preservation and others.

20
  • To move India from Food security to Global food
    dominance.
  • Advocating for the interest of the small farmers
as it is recognised that raising incomes through
higher productivity, higher prices and lower cost
    will ultimately benefit Indian business.

21
Strategy adopted by CII
  • The national task force on agriculture was set up
by the CII as early as 1996.
  • A national committee on agriculture was set up in
2001 under the chairmanship of Anand Mahindra
with ambitious theme from food security to
    Global food dominance.
  • Continued stress on the revamping of the
agriculture produce Marketing Committee Act of
the state governments, which would attract more
    private investments into the sector.

22
  • The proposals to set up the agricultural export
zones has been welcomed by CII .
  • CIIs national council on agriculture has put
forward proposals for tax incentives for
investment in cold chains and storage facilities.
  • CII has also conducted major studies on dairy
sector potential and on food processing to draw
attention to the huge market opportunities in
    these sectors to its members.
  • The food regulatory council of CII has set up a
CODEX cell to disseminate knowledge about
    international food standards .
  • In December 2002, the Indian Farmers and Industry
Alliance(IFIA) was set up with the help of CII to
develop cooperation in the two crucial economy
    sectors.

  • What makes you unique among industry associations
is its global reach, high professionalism,
excellence of output and its confidence in our
    country future.
  • -Dr Bimal Jalan, MP Former Governor, RBI
  • The best thing about CII is that it is so much
more than a business lobby group. It is genuinely
concerned about the corporate governance and is
always looking at competitiveness issues. It is a
quality organisation working in public interest.
