Title: Plural Personal Pronouns in the Epistle of Paul to the Galatians
1Plural Personal Pronouns in the Epistle of Paul
to the Galatians
2Chapter One
- 1Paul, an apostle (not of men neither by man, but
by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised
him from the dead) 2and all the brethren who are
with me, unto the churches of Galatia
3Revelation Chapter Two
- 1Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write
These things saith he that holdeth the seven
stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst
of the seven golden candlesticks
4Revelation Chapter Two
- 2I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy
patience, and how thou canst not bear them which
are evil and thou hast tried them which say they
are apostles, and are not, and hast found them
liars 3And hast borne, and hast patience, and
for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not
fainted.
5Revelation Chapter Two
- 4Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee,
because thou hast left thy first love. 5Remember
therefore from whence thou art fallen, and
repent, and do the first works or else I will
come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy
candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
6Chapter One
- 3Grace be to you and peace from God the Father,
and from our Lord Jesus Christ, 4who gave himself
for our sins, that he might deliver us from this
present evil world, according to the will of God
and our Father,
Jesus gave himself for our sins. Does our
sins refer to the sins of churches or to the
sins of individuals?
7Chapter One
- 3Grace be to you and peace from God the Father,
and from our Lord Jesus Christ, 4who gave himself
for our sins, that he might deliver us from this
present evil world, according to the will of God
and our Father,
Jesus gave himself for our sins, that he might
deliver us from this present evil world.
Deliver us congregations or us individuals?
8Chapter One
- 6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him
that called you into the grace of Christ unto
another gospel,
The ye who were so soon removed were the same
as the you who had been calledinto the grace
of Christ. Were congregations or individuals
calledinto the grace of Christ?
9Chapter One
- 7 which is not another but there be some that
trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of
Christ.
How were the false teachers troubling the
churches of Galatia? They were troubling the
churches by teaching that individual male
Christians had to submit to physical circumcision
to be saved.
10Chapter Six
- 12As many as desire to make a fair shew in the
flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised only
lest they should suffer persecution for the cross
of Christ. 13For neither they themselves who are
circumcised keep the law but desire to have you
circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.
11Chapter Six
- 14But God forbid that I should glory, save in the
cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world
is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. 15For
in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any
thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
12Chapter One
- 8But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach
any other gospel unto you than that which we have
preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9As we
said before, so say I now again, if any man
preach any other gospel unto you than that ye
have received, let him be accursed.
The gospel was preached to them as individuals,
not as local churches. It was also received by
them as individuals.
13Chapter One
- 11But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel
which was preached of me is not after man. For I
neither received it of man, neither was I taught
it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Here, Paul makes it clear that he is writing to
the individual Christians who make up the
churches.
14Chapter Six
- 1Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye
which are spiritual, restore such an one in the
spirit of meekness considering thyself, lest
thou also be tempted. - 2Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the
law of Christ.
Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with
those who weep. (Rom. 1215)
15Chapter Six
- 1Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye
which are spiritual, restore such an one in the
spirit of meekness considering thyself, lest
thou also be tempted. - 2Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the
law of Christ. - 3For if a man think himself to be something, when
he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
And if one member suffers, all the members suffer
with it or if one member is honored, all the
members rejoice with it. (1 Cor. 1226)
16Chapter Six
- 1Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye
which are spiritual, restore such an one in the
spirit of meekness considering thyself, lest
thou also be tempted. - 2Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the
law of Christ. - 3For if a man think himself to be something, when
he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed
lest he fall. (1 Cor. 1012)
17Chapter Six
- 4But let every man prove his own work, and then
shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not
in another. - 5For every man shall bear his own burden.
- 6Let him that is taught in the word communicate
unto him that teacheth in all good things. - 7Be not deceived God is not mocked for
whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
18Chapter Six
- 8For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the
flesh reap corruption but he that soweth to the
Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
- 9And let us not be weary in well doing for in
due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
19Chapter Six
- 10As we have therefore opportunity, let us do
good unto all men, especially unto them who are
of the household of faith.
Some try to shift the responsibility thus
20Chapter Six
- 10As we have therefore opportunity, let us do
good unto all men, especially unto them who are
of the household of faith.
This is what the text actually teaches.
