Title: Transcript Tutorial

1
How Do I Read My Transcript?
1. First, make sure all of your personal
information is accurate. This should be a
students legal name (no nicknames) and address
should be current.
2
Directly under your personal information, you
will find grades and GPA from your first quarter
(9 week period) at CCA. Also included in each
quarter is a summary of the credits you have
attempted and earned for that quarter. Each
subsequent quarters grades, credits and GPA
follows. If you did not attend CCA in 9th grade,
you should find a record of the grades you earned
from 9th grade at your former school. Keep in
mind that if you attend summer school, your
grades will be factored in with the year that
follows. For example, summer school after ninth
grade will be considered 10th grade. Plus and
minus are not shown on the official transcript.
3
Each quarter, your Grade Point Average (GPA) is
calculated by taking the sum of the grades you
earned and dividing it by the number of the
courses you took that quarter. At the bottom of
each represented quarter, you will find your
TGPA (Total Grade Point Average), for that
quarter only. To calculate TGPA, the following
formula is used A4 B3 C2
D1 The only exception to this formula is one
additional point for C grade and higher earned
in PreCalculus Honors and/or Advanced Placement
courses. Keep in mind that a D in these
courses does NOT earn an additional point.
4
On the CCA transcript, three types of GPA are
calculated by dividing the sum of course grade
points earned by the number of courses taken.
Acad. GPA 9-12 Includes all courses taken in
9-12, except PE, Teacher Aide and courses graded
with a Pass/Fail. Acad. GPA 10-12 Includes all
courses taken in 10 -12 except PE, Teacher Aide
and courses graded with a Pass/Fail. Total GPA 9
-12 Includes every course taken in grades 9-12.
Note Each college determines which GPA to
use for admission and it is the students
responsibility to use the correct GPA on the
application.
5
In the lower left-hand corner of your transcript,
you will find your total overall credits
attempted and earned, including every quarter at
CCA.
6
In the lower right-hand corner of your
transcript, you will find your overall credits
earned, including every quarter at CCA, in a
Credit Summary format. Note that there are
three columns Credits Reqd This column
indicates how many credits are required to
graduate from CCA (not to apply to
college). Compl This column indicates how many
credits you have completed toward your graduation
requirement. Needed This column indicates how
many more credits you need in order to
graduate. Note This summary does not include
the credits being attempted in the current Work
in Progress section.
7
In the lower left-hand corner of your transcript,
you will find a California High School Exit Exam
(CAHSEE) designation. In order to graduate, you
must pass both the ELA and Math section. If you
do pass either or both sections, it will be
indicated. You may print an unofficial
transcript from Aeries at any time. To request
an official transcript, please see the CCA
Registrar in Student Services.
