Title: Pablo Picasso 1881-1973

1
Pablo Picasso1881-1973
  • One of the greatest artists of the twentieth
    century.
  • He was a great painter.
  • He also made sculptures, prints, drawings,
beautifully colored dishes and bowls, and
    costumes and scenery for plays.

2
A little background information
  • Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga, Spain in 1881.
  • His father was an art teacher and encouraged his
    son to paint and draw.
  • Picasso was always trying new and different ways
    to express his talent.
  • His painting style changed more than any other
    artist.

3
Painting Styles
  • He would paint things that would look very flat.
  • He would then paint things that looked so round
that it seemed like you could pick them off the
    painting.
  • At 19, he moved to France and began painting like
other French artists such as Van Gogh, Gauguin,
    and Monet.

4
Blue Period
  • Picassos best friend died and he felt alone and
    sad.
  • Also, he was almost starving to death because his
    paintings were not selling.
  • Because of his mood, he began to paint using lots
    of blue.
  • All of the people in his paintings looked lonely
    and sad.

5
Rose Period
  • Picasso fell in love with a girl named Fernande.
  • A happier color showed up in his paintings and he
    began to paint happier things.

6
Cubism
  • Picasso developed this style of painting and made
    it famous.
  • These paintings look like he broke the subjects
    up into little cubes.

7
Guernica
  • In 1937 a civil war in Spain left a small town
    called Guernica destroyed by bombs.
  • Many innocent people were killed which made
    Picasso very angry.
  • He created a huge painting (12 feet high and 25
feet wide) and used darker colors, cubism, and
lots of expression to show his angry feelings.

8
Pablo Picasso
  • Picasso lived to be ninety-two years old and died
    in the south of France.
  • Besides his art, Picassos quotes are still
popular and provide us with an insight into his
    mind..
  • All children are artists. The problem is how
to remain an artist once he grows up.
