3Fee Payment August 2013
- We will set dates in August for fee payment,
usually the first week. - The fee amounts have not been approved for next
year. - Required school fees for 2012-2013 were 116
(textbook rental, student planner, and student
ID) - Optional fees vary and cover yearbook, activity
ticket, and school picture packets - Bussing for students inside 2.5 miles is 144

- Eight feeder elementary schools Apache,
Comanche, East Antioch, McAuliffe, Overland Park,
Pawnee, Rising Star, Sunflower - Projected enrollment of 910 students
- 466 seventh graders
- 444 eighth graders
- Teachers are all Highly Qualified in their
curricular areas.
5Basic Information
- School day starts at 845 AM and ends 345 PM
There are eight periods, 45 minutes long, with
FIVE-minute passing periods between each class. - Students may be in the building starting at 745
AM and if not with a staff member students are to
be off campus no later than 400 PM - Teachers are available for help before school
from 805 until 835 - Open tutoring in Library every morning from 800
835

- Each seventh grade student will have 2 lockers
each with its own combination -one in the
academic hall and one for physical education
located in the gym locker room - Students are expected to dress out for physical
education. The PE uniform requirements are on
our PE Web Back PacksGrey T-shirt, Navy shorts - 3 Lunches occur during 5th hour and run from
1157 to 118 - Student ID card acts as a Debit Card- Money can
be put on your students account -online or by
check

- Lockdown Drills practiced monthly
- SRO on duty full time
- Continually working to improve our procedures and

106th Graders to Visit Westridge
- In May 2013 all current 6th graders will travel
to Westridge for a 3 hour visit in which they
will learn a little about middle school and watch
a theater performance.

- Westridge will take extreme pleasure in making
sure that your childs transition from elementary
to middle school is as seamless and enjoyable as

16Advanced English Classes are accelerated and
enriched
- Students should demonstrate a strong interest in
reading and writing. - Students should demonstrate the motivation and
self-discipline to complete assignments on time. - Students should have good attendance.
- Student may have 20-30 min. of homework daily.
- Once enrolled, students will stay in Advanced
classes for the entire year.
17Advanced ScienceClass is both accelerated and
enriched
- Student should be an independent learner with
good study skills. - Student should have an interest in Science and
like to do individual science projects. - Organizational skills to complete long-term
projects are essential. - Student may have 20-30 min. of homework daily.
- Student should have good attendance.
- Student must have good mathematic skills and
reading comprehension. - Once enrolled, students will stay in Advanced
classes for the entire year.
18Math Placement
- Student placement will be determined using Kansas
Assessment/MAP/ Basic Skills scores and teacher
input from 6th grade. - Students work habits and motivation will be a
secondary consideration for placement. - Math placement may not be finalized until all
data is available, which will include spring
assessments.
19Math Options
- Math 7 - Students are not demonstrating a solid
foundation of concepts covered in elementary
grades. - Math Workshop -- Additional hour of math to help
students with gaps and assistance on current math
concepts. - Pre-Algebra.- Students who have demonstrated
solid skills in math concepts and computation. - Algebra 1- Students have demonstrated mastery of
the concepts covered in Pre-Algebra.
20Elective Options
- Students will have 2 elective classes each
semester - They can take four semester long elective classes
- They can take one, year long elective and 2
semester long electives - They can take two, year long electives.
- Students with Math Workshop will have 1 elective
per semester
