How can Pronouns be grouped?
  • We learned last week that pronouns can be grouped
    by first person, second person, and third person.
  • Pronouns can also be grouped by their cases.

  • Use in a sentence

Uses in the Possessive Cases
  • Only one use, but can be used in two different
    ways
  • They can be used before nouns.
  • Examples
  • The team won its game.
  • Chris held my baseball glove.
  • They can also be used by themselves (without the
    noun).
  • Examples
  • Is this marble yours or mine?
  • Hers was the best score.

  • Who
  • Use who for the subject of a verb or subject of a
    subordinating clause.
  • This would be classified as the Nominative Case.
  • Examples
  • Subject of a verb Who hit the most home runs?
  • Subject of a subordinating clause I admire the
    player who hit the most home runs.
  • Whom
  • Use whom for the direct object of a verb and for
    the object of a preposition.
  • This would be classified as the Objective Case.
  • Examples
  • Direct object Whom did he see at the game?
  • Object of Preposition From whom is she getting
    the new softball?
