  else, either by association or by resemblance.
• It can be a material object or a written sign
  used to represent something invisible.

What did you come up with?

• The American Flag
• on a literal level, it is just a flag, a piece of
  cloth. However, it also stands for this
  particular county, for freedom, etc.
• What about the others?

  tell what it symbolizes. OR, think of a symbol
  that represents you. Sketch it, and explain why
  it symbolizes you.

  phrase, or a description, which represents a
  deeper meaning than the words themselves.
• This kind of extension of meaning can transform
  the written word into a very powerful instrument.
