Common Notation
  • The way in which music is transcribed is known as
    common notation.
  • Common notation divides music into segments known
    as measures or bars.
  • These segments are divided with vertical lines
    known as bar lines

  • The first beat of a measure in music .
  • These beats are organized in a pattern of beats
    know as a Time Signature.

Time Signature
  • The top number indicates how many beats are in a
    measure.
  • The bottom number indicates the type of number
    that will receive one beat.

  • The quarter note will receive one beat

    time.
