Reconciliation

• A sacrament through which Christ forgives the
  sins of those who seek His mercy.
• A Sacrament of Healing
• Frequency
• Recommended that we receive Reconciliation
  regularly.
• Obligated to confess all sins
• Seal of Confession
• Priest is NEVER allowed to tell what he was told
  in confession.

Types of Sin

• Sin- Any deliberate thought, word, or action
  through which we refuse to love God, others, and
  ourselves.

• Original Sin
• Personal Sin
• Social Sin
• Sins against life

Original Sin

• Sin of Adam and Eve
• Loss of original holiness
• Humans are now weakened and inclined to sin

Personal Sin

• Mortal Sin
• Serious offense against God
• Results in a total break in our friendship with
  Him
• 3 Factors
• Grave and serious matter
• Clear knowledge
• Full consent
• Venial Sin
• Less serious offense against God
• Does not break our friendship with Him

Social Sin

• Unjust group that denies people their rights
• Communism
• Racism
• Segregation
• Prejudice and discrimination against ANYONE!

• Sins that harm the lives of others and yourself
• Terrorism/murder
• Abuse of drugs and alcohol
• Discrimination
• Nuclear War

Rite of Reconciliation

• 1. Preparation
• Praise God for the forgiveness of sin through the
  death and Resurrection of Jesus.
• Thank God for His grace in your life.
• Examine where you have sinned in love of
  God/neighbor.
• 2. Celebration of Rite
• a) Celebration of confession and absolution
• - face to face exchange
• - kneeling at the confessional grill

Grace and Forgiveness

• Grace- Gods divine life in us.
• It is a special gift that God freely gives so
  that we may share in His happiness.
• After we receive grace, we share in Gods life.
• Forgiveness- it begins with Gods mercy and love
  that comes to us in Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
• Gods mercy and love enables us to forgive
  ourselves and others.
