    environment and the worker.

16
Ergonomic Tips for Hands
  • Take breaks, flex wrists if keying long periods.
  • Use keyboard designed to protect wrists.
  • Curve fingers.

17
Health Problems Related to Improper
Keyboard/Mouse Usage
  • Repetitive stress injuries
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Tendonitis
  • Ganglion Cysts

18
Ergonomic Tips for Eyes
  • Keep monitor directly in front of usermonitor
top 2-3 inches above eye alignment.
  • Monitor should be an arms length away.
  • Black print on white background is best for long
    periods of work.
  • Font choice should be easy to read.
  • Take frequent mini eye breaks to rest eyes.
  • Use larger screens for continual work.
  • Desktops are preferred over laptops for continued
    use.

19
Health Problems Related to Improper Monitor Use
  • Headaches
  • Blurred Vision
  • Tiredness
  • Need for Glasses

20
Ergonomics and Posture
  • Sitting posture should be straight with shoulders
    back.
  • Chair and desk heights should allow user to sit
    with feet on floor.
  • Arms should be allowed to fall loosely by sides
and bent at elbows to 90 degree angle.

21
Ideal Keying Position
22
What Can YOU Do to Help Prevent Health Problems
Caused by Long-Term Keyboarding?
  • Try the following simple exercises to reduce
    stress and fatigue

???
23
Back  Start with the arms bent, hands near chest
area, and push elbows back.  Hold for 5 seconds,
then relax.  Repeat several times. You can also
raise arms in the same fashion, this time close
to the shoulders, to work out the upper back.
24
Head and Neck  Turn head slowly from one side to
the other, holding each turn for 3 seconds.
Repeat several times.
25
Wrists  Hold your hands out in front of you.
Slowly raise and lower your hands to stretch the
muscles in the forearm.  Repeat several times.
26
Fingers and Hands  Make a tight fist.  Hold for
a second.  Then spread your fingers apart as far
as you can.  Hold for 5 seconds, then relax.
Repeat several times.
27
Emergency Exit Procedures
  • Take your backpack/purse no time for packing
  • Exit through the outside door by the teachers
    desk
  • Quietly go onto the grass area across the road,
    toward Whitthorne
  • Stay together until an administrator or teacher
gives you instructions to re-enter the building
