  • Each universalizing religion is divided into
    subgroups
  • Branches are large basic divisions within a
    religion.
  • Denominations are divisions of branches that
    unite local groups in a single administrative
    body.
  • Sects are relatively small groups that do not
    affiliate with the more mainstream denominations.
