Title: Who Killed John F. Kennedy?

1
Who Killed John F. Kennedy?
2
John F. Kennedy
  • 35th President of the US. He was assassinated on
November 22, 1963, while on a political stop in
    Dallas, TX.

3
The Assassination
  • It was initially reported that Kennedy was shot
twice by a lone gunman, Lee Harvey Oswald.
Oswald fired on the President from the sixth
floor of a local book depository as his car
    passed by.

4
The Conspiracy Theories
  • How could Oswald have fired three shots, with two
hits, from such a distance and in such a short
    amount of time?

5
Conspiracy Theories
  • How could Oswalds hits alone account for all of
the wounds suffered by multiple individuals (the
    magic bullet theory)?

6
Conspiracy Theories
  • If the fatal shot to Kennedy hit him in the front
portion of his head, how could Oswald have done
so from a position behind the president? A second
    shooter?

7
Conspiracy Theories
  • If there was a second shooter, where did he shoot
the president from? Was it from the grassy
    knoll?

8
(No Transcript)
9
Conspiracy Theories
  • Was the mafia involved, as revenge for Robert
Kennedys tactics to get rid of organized crime?

10
Conspiracy Theories
  • Did the CIA organize the hit as revenge for the
Bay of Pigs fiasco, or Kennedys desire to have
more control over their actions? Was the Secret
    Service in on it?

11
Conspiracy Theories
  • Did Castro organize the assassination as revenge
for the CIAs attempts on his life?

12
Who Was to Blame for Altamont?
13
Altamont Speedway
  • December 6, 1969, the Rolling Stones played a
free concert for over 300,000 fans. Policed by
the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, the concert
resulted in four deaths and hundreds of injuries.

14
One of the young men killed, Meredith Hunter, was
beaten to death during the concert. The fact
that he had a gun led to a Not Guilty finding
in the case against the Hells Angels.
15
Who Should be Blamed for the Violence during the
concert?
16
The Hells Angels
  • The notorious motorcycle club was used for
security at many San Francisco area concerts,
though they were renowned for their drug use,
    violence and intimidation.

17
  • "I ain't no cop, I ain't never going to ever
pretend to be no cop. I didn't go there to police
nothing, man. They told me if I could sit on the
edge of the stage so nobody could climb over me,
I could drink beer until the show was over. And
that's what I went there to do."

18
Altamont Speedway
  • The venue was overcapacity, understaffed, had few
doctors, and very few facilities for food, drink,
    and bathrooms.

19
Drug Use
  • Adding together 300,000 fans with a days worth
of alcohol, LSD, and amphetamines led to numerous
fights and high tensions between the Angels and
    the fans.

20
The Rolling Stones
  • Made the crowd wait an hour and half before they
went on stage, upping the tension.
  • Responsible for hiring the Hells Angels.
  • Left abruptly while the fighting escalated.
  • Their songs emphasized violence and anarchy.

21
Can Music Create a Mood or Influence Behaviors,
including Violence?
22
Wheres Jimmy Hoffa?
23
Jimmy Hoffa
  • Hoffa was the president of the Teamsters Union,
the largest union in the US that primarily was
involved with the trucking industry. Fought for
the rights of workers in areas concerning wages,
    benefits, and retirement pensions.

24
Hoffa and the Mob
  • Hoffa was accused of shifting jobs and business
to Mob owned companies in exchange for payoffs.
  • In 1967 he was convicted of paying off jurors in
a previous case against him and was sent to jail
for eight years. He was pardoned by Nixon in
    1971.

25
Hoffas Disappearance
  • Having cut ties with the Mob while in prison,
thus taking money away from them, Hoffa became a
    liability and a target.
  • July 30, 1975, Hoffa arranged to meet with two
high ranking members to smooth things out. He
left with them from a restaurant in Union City,
NJ, and was never seen from again.

26
What Happened to Him?
  • He was killed by the two Mob hitmen he met with
at the restaurant, Salvatore and Gabriel
Briguglio, and then buried at the Meadowlands,
    dumped in the ocean.

27
What Happened to Him?
  • The Mafia, including Carlos Marcello, killed
Hoffa since he was friendly with those involved
with the Kennedy Assassination in order to make
sure he was quiet about what he knew.

28
What Happened to Him?
  • President Nixon pardoned him in order to have him
killed, since Hoffa had been involved in union
payoffs (for votes?) from Nixon around the time
    of the Watergate scandal.

29
What Happened to Him?
  • His adopted son, Chuckie OBrien, killed him
since Hoffa had refused to pay off his gambling
debts to the Mob, which had made him a target as
well. Debts would be forgiven if he killed
    Hoffa?

30
Who Did It?
  • Based on the reading, how would each of the
    following individuals/groups benefited from
Hoffas disappearance? Who do you think would
have benefited most and is likely responsible for
    his probable death? Explain.
  • Richard Nixon
  • The Mob
  • The Mafia
  • His Son
