• 1600s Pueblo Indians took thousands of horses
  from Spanish
• Changes the way of life of Plains Indians
• Allows them to travel much easier and follow the
  buffalo

Bison/ Buffalo

• Weight- from 882 lbs to 2,205 lbs
• Life Expectancy 15-25 years
• 19th Century almost hunted them to extinction
• Today Limited numbers of permits given to hunt
  bison

• Believed in rich varied cultures
• Different languages and religions for different
  tribes
• Native Americans were farmers/hunters/nomads
  (roamers)
• Women- gathered food, prepared meals, tepees,
  cared for kids, crafts
• Men- hunted and protected, military and spiritual
  leaders
