Title: CT FINDINGS IN COLONIC WALL THICKENING IN VARIOUS ETIOLOGICAL FACTORS- CASE SERIES ABSTRACT NO:- 59
1CT FINDINGS IN COLONIC WALL THICKENING IN VARIOUS
ETIOLOGICAL FACTORS- CASE SERIESABSTRACT NO- 59
2INTRODUCTION-
- Colonic wall thickening is one of the common
findings in patients with abdominal complaints . - Plain x ray, conventional barium enema,USG and CT
with and without contrast are non invasive
modalities useful in characterizing the bowel
wall thickening.
3- CT can be helpful in the differentiation of
intestinal disease. - Important features to look for are
- Enhancement pattern
- Length of involvement
- Degree of mural thickening
- Mesenteric changes
- Lumen contents
4Tuberculosis causing thickening of ceacum and
ascending colon
5Tuberculosis causing thickening of ceacum and
terminal ileum
6Tuberculosis causing thickening of ascending
colon ,ceacum and ileoceacal junction
7Ischemic cause causing thickening of descending
and sigmoid colon
8Ulcerative colitis causing thickening of rectum
,sigmoid and descending colon
9Non Hodgkins lymphoma causing thickening of rectum
10Lymphoma causing thickening of ceacum and
ascending colon
11Adenocarcinoma causing thickening of sigmoid colon
12Adenocarcinoma causing thickening of ascending
colon
13Adenocarcinoma causing thickening of ascending
colon
14Carcinoid causing thickening of terminal ileal
and ceacal loop
15CONCLUSION-
- Spectrum of CT findings in various etiologic
factors were described and correlated with
clinical finding and other imaging modalities. - CT plays a pivotal role in diagnosis, management
and staging in malignant lesion. - CT findings were well correlated with the
histopathology in our study series.
