3Introduction
In Palestine as in other developing countries in
the world, there is a natural high increase in
population. Such population growth requires
constructed facilities such as housing so,
Innovation new method to reduce cost.
4- Importance of the project
- The overall aim of this project is to help
the Palestinian companies to obtain low
residential construction cost through using new
method of construction.
5Methodology
Research Question What is the new construction
method and alternative materials that can be used
in project environment.
6Methodology
- Data Collection
- Previous study
- Interviews
the interviews that were made with engineers and
contractors that have experience about value
engineering to achieve the research purpose. .
7Methodology
This table shows criteria's that taken when
evaluating construction material through give
each alternative material scores related to this
criteria and compare these scores to make a
decision.
1- Cost of construction 2- Cost of Material
3- Construction speed 4- Aesthetically
5- Safety during construction 6- Strength
7- Durability 8-Environmental
9- Fire resistance 10- Heat (Thermal) resistance
11- Shockproof 12- Sound insulation
8Methodology
Case study
- Housing will be taken as a case study in order to
estimate the actual cost using new material and
new construction method and some management
concept then compared with traditional methods. - The Alternative materials that taken
- Cobaix System
- Artificial Stone
- Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) tiles
- PVC Windows
- PVC Doors
9Methodology
- Using Revit 2014 software to measure a quantity
of building before and after using alternative
material. - By primavera, input the quantities data and by
estimated productivity rate, total budgeted cost
and duration was calculated for previous cases. - Apply Present Worth Analysis Method (PWA) to
choose the best economical material.
10Methodology
- Make an evaluation between alternative material
and current material with take many consideration
as mentioned above, according to
Multiple-Criteria Decision Analysis method. - Make a decision Alternative material is better
than current material or NOT !
11Discussion and Conclusion
- The different between costs before and after
alternative materials is 77,860 approximately. - According to PWA method, all alternatives were
rejected economically, except PVC windows was
accepted. - In evaluation, the priority was taken for cost
and time criteria, so its took high importance
scores. - Environmental and safety consideration were taken
for each material, though it is not important for
customers.
12Discussion and Conclusion
- According to Multiple-Criteria Decision Analysis
method, All alternatives were surpassed except
cobiax system, although its reduce 17 concrete
and 26 steel. - Cobiax system will be more efficient if it is
used in long spans such as hall, auditorium, and
courts, but its not efficient for residential
home. -

13Discussion and Conclusion
- Artificial stone overweigh on natural stone,
although natural stone has a good specification
and lifetime, but its unsafety, unfriendly with
environmental. - A PVC tile is better than traditional tiles, in
spite of the high cost of PVC according to PWA
method, but its has a good specification such
as shock, sound proof and fire resistance. Also
its easy to install.
14Recommendation
- Customers must be aware about positive
characteristics for new material to increase its
demand, thus increase the rate of its industry. - Making tradeoff between cost and other criteria.
- Encourage contractors and workers to keep in
touch with development markets.
15Recommendation
- Organizing workshops for contractors, engineering
offices to aware them about alternative
materials. - Encourage the teaching staff in universities to
mention and clarify the benefits of using new
methods of construction and alternative material. - Cooperation between local and global construction
companies, to take experiences as much as
possible and trying to apply it locally.
