Some characteristics that are prominent in my
family
  • Almost everyone on my mothers side of the family
    was born in Kentucky.
  • Everybody in my family strongly encouraged
    education.

Maternal great-great grandparents
  • Thomas Jackson Price and Sally Rainey Price
  • They lived in Danville, Kentucky.

Maternal Great-Grandparents
  • Thomas Jackson Price Jr. and Evelyn Hammond Price
    (Lynn)
  • They had one child Thomas Jackson Price III which
    was my grandfather.
  • They lived in Lexington, Kentucky.
  • My great-grandfather went to UK and owned an
    insurance agency here in Lexington.
  • He served in WWI and suffered through the Great
    Depression.
  • My great-grandmother was very thrifty and knew
    how to stretch a dime.
  • They were very loving and caring parents to my
    grandfather.

Maternal Grandparents
  • Thomas Jackson Price III and Betty Vanderpool
    Morford Price were married for over 40 years.
  • They had three children Thomas Morford Price,
    Lynn Hammond Price, and Mary Vanderpool Price
  • All the children grew up in Lexington.
  • They were great parents that only wanted the best
    for their children.
  • My grandparents stressed education and encouraged
    dreams.

My granddaddy
  • My grandfather was born in Danville, Ky. and grew
    up in Lexington.
  • My grandfather served in WWII where he lost his
    hearing in his left ear from an explosion.
  • He went to UK on the GI bill and graduated with a
    masters degree in mathematics. He was a member
    of the UK baseball team.
  • He taught high school and coached basketball,
    football, and baseball at Harrodsburg and Jenkins
    early in his career.
  • He worked at Cowden Manufacturing Co. for 26
    years as the Vice President of transportation.
  • He also taught at Lexington Community College for
    several years.
  • He was owner of Air Freight Inc., Dollar
    Rent-A-Car, Transportation Unlimited and Red
    Arrow Delivery Inc.
  • He served several terms as president of the
    Central Kentucky Traffic Club.
  • He retired in 1983 for health reasons.
  • He passed away when he was 65 from a stroke.

Nana
  • The prissiest woman that ever lived was my
    grandmother, Betty Vanderpool Morford Price
    (Nana).
  • She was born in Owensboro, Ky. but grew up in
    Glasgow, Ky.
  • She was adopted into a prominent family where
    they had a cook and a maid.
  • Her new family offered her endless possibilities
    and provided her a wonderful life.
  • She went to UK College of Nursing where she met
    my grandfather.
  • Nana never went a day without her make-up on and
    her fingernails painted. If we saw Nana and
    didnt have our make-up on she would ask us, did
    you oversleepare you sick?
  • She was very lady-like and proper.
  • Her home was beautiful and professionally
    decorated.
  • She always stressed education to her children and
    she always said, If you dont expect it, youll
    never achieve it.
  • My grandfather put her on a pedestal.
  • She died 2 and ½ years ago from a long illness at
    the age of 71.

Great-great aunt and great grandmother
  • Great-great aunt- Viola Vanderpool Harris
  • She came to Kentucky on a covered wagon from
    Oklahoma.
  • Her father owned a grocery store on a street
    which later became known as Vanderpool Alley (off
    Euclid).
  • She went to Transylvania University at a time
    when women were not encouraged to go to college.
  • She was very prissy and she never wore pants a
    day in her life because she believed it was
    unladylike.
  • She was active in the community and loved to play
    bridge.
  • She was very active in the Republican Party.
  • She helped set up the Mary Todd Lincoln Museum
    and Parker Place.
  • She died at 95 of old age.
  • Great grandmother- Pearl Vanderpool Morford was
    my grandmothers adopted mother.
  • She lived in Glasgow, Ky.
  • She also went to Transylvania and played on the
    golf team there.
  • She believed women should all know proper
    etiquette, know how to entertain, play bridge,
    and golf.
  • She died from a fire in her house.

My Parents
  • William A. McCray (dad) and Mary Vanderpool Price
    McCray (mom)
  • Married on January 18, 1980.
  • My parents met through mutual roommates and
    eloped.
  • My father grew up in Lexington and graduated from
    Bryan Station High school. He then went to
    Eastern Kentucky University.
  • He has owned and operated an electronics
    business, McCray Electronics, for 22 years.
  • My father can do or fix anything and I like to
    refer to him as Macqyver.
  • My mother grew up in Lexington and graduated from
    Tates Creek High School. She graduated from
    Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in
    child development.
  • Currently, my mother is a real estate agent which
    serves her well because my parents buy and sell
    real estate.
  • My mother has a talent for decorating and is very
    good at it.
  • I believe she could show Martha Stewart a thing
    or two.
  • My parents are wonderful people who raised two
    wonderful girls.

Sisterly Love
  • My sisters name is Elizabeth Ashley McCray
    Willis but goes by Ashley.
  • She is 25 years old and is married to Dave Willis
    and they have a adorable son named Cooper who is
    almost 2 years old.
  • My sister was a big entertainer who loved to sing
    and dance and was in two Broadway shows in New
    York City at the young age of nine.
  • She graduated from Lafayette High School where
    she was valedictorian, senior class president,
    drum major, and even homecoming queen. So, I
    dont have to say I had big shoes to follow
    growing up.
  • She went to Georgetown College on a full academic
    scholarship and graduated with a degree in
    communications and a minor in political science.
  • She was going to go to law school but decided to
    get her masters in education and teach so she
    could impact children.
  • She was a teacher for a year until she became a
    mother.
  • Currently, my sister and Dave moved to Augusta,
    Georgia where Dave will be a minister and they
    are expecting their second son.

ME
  • My name is Morgan Kelly McCray and I was born on
    December 20, 1984.
  • As a child, I loved to cheer, dance, wear
    spandex, ride my jeep, and jump on the
    trampoline.
  • Currently, I am a student at UK and majoring in
    Elementary Education.
  • On the weekends, you can find me serving at
    El-Chico (a Mexican restaurant).
  • I absolutely love anything girly, especially the
    color pink!!

Family Portrait
  • My family is extremely important to me and we are
    all very close.
  • The beautiful dog in the picture was Honeybear
    who was my sidekick growing up as a young girl.
  • As well as Honeybear, my sister was and will
    forever be a very special person in my life. I
    look up to her in everything she does and we are
    sisters who share a very special bond.

  • My aunt Lynn teaches Nursing at LCC and is
    working on her Doctorate at the University of
    Kentucky.
