News
  • 1. Hard news
  • - important news about an issue that involves
    the impact on the people. Written in the inverted
    pyramid.
  • 2. Soft news
  • - less important news about humanity. Written in
    a narrative like features.
  • 3. Investigation news
  • - is an effort involves collecting confidential
    information from person or agency.

into news?1.Descriptive News Writing
  • Paints a word portrait of a person, place, even
    event. It also known as a situation lead. Or
    Interpretation of a situation with a view implies
    a physical form of an object.

  • 2.Informative News WritingIt is a statement that
    gives facts about a matter.
  • Example-
  • Putrajaya "Do not give MyKad to anyone, even if

  • 3. Evaluative News Writing
  • This is a form of story in which the reporter is
    free to interpret the news the way he or she sees
    it. S/He is allowed to inject his own biased but
    expert opinion, editorialize and pass comments on
    the fact being reported. Evaluative stories
    require additional facts, detailed explanations
    and logical analysis.

  • Sports news equally important with other news
    such as politics, economics, education and crime.
  • According to Mustakim (2010), sports news began
    as light reading material and entertainment.

    news should focus on -

  • It is a report on the economy, the profit and
    loss of business and the financial system.
  • When writing economic news, journalists should
    have the right facts and information. Any errors
    report such as a decimal point will affect the
    information.

  • Crime news is reporting of criminal cases.
    Examples corruption, murder, robbery, etc..

B. Feature Writing
  • Less important (compare than hard news) news
    about humanity. Written in a narrative. There are
    a few types of features writing-
  • PERSONALITY OR PROFILE- are usually written about
    people with their cooperation.
  • CULTURAL FEATURE WRITING - all about people's
    beliefs, their values, the attitudes,
  • TOURISM
  • Political Writing
  • Economic Writing
  • SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY FEATURE WRITING
  • Entertainment

c. Review Writing
  • You have to summarize plot or action. You will
    find it helpful if you organize your review into
    different areas. There is no set order for a
    review, but here are some of the areas you might
    consider

  • The Opening
  • What are your first impressions?
  • Is it exciting? Moody? Atmospheric? Gripping?
  • Can you predict what is going to happen?

  • 2. The Plot
  • Is it believable?
  • What type of story is it? E.g. horror, adventure
    etc.
  • Is there an exciting climax?
  • Are there any surprises or twists?
  • Is it easy to understand?

  • Describe the main characters.
  • What problems does the main character have?
  • Which characters do you like or dislike? Why?
  • How does the main character develop/change?
  • Are the characters well-described/acted?
  • What do the characters learn?

  • Is there a message to be learned?
  • Can you compare this with other works?
  • Is there anything different/special about this
