  • Aims Objectives
  • Increase the amount of content in and
    discoverable through Jorum
  • Improve the discoverability of content
  • Develop the infrastructure to support Jorums
    mission
  • Engage with the teaching and learning community
including developers to enable the above
  •
  • Jorum
  • Focuses on Open Educational Resources (OER)
  • Works collaboratively with individuals,
institutions and subject communities to support
sharing and showcasing of OERs, as highlighted in
    the Collaborate to Compete Report
  • Works to increase deposit of OER for those UK
    universities, colleges and subject communities
that elect to share through Jorum , developing
    comprehensive and quality content
  • Works collaboratively to improve discoverability
of content both held within Jorum and hosted
elsewhere, fostering an ecology of OER reuse
  • Contributes to the body of evidence needed to
seek to prove the transformative potential of
OERs through demonstration and good practice not
    rhetoric
  • Focuses on UK initially but will engage with the
growing OER initiatives in EU and overseas to
help JISC raise the profile of its OER activity
    and investment

5
  • Jorums vision
  • Working in collaboration to build an enabling
infrastructure for sharing and discovering OERs
  • http//mimas.ac.uk/news/2011/05/jorum-listens/
  • towards a new vision where Jorum becomes a
shared national service for discovering OERs that
also fosters the ecology of reuse of those
resources across the sector and beyond.
  • A Jorum Strategy is in preparation for 2011-2012
  • Jorum Vision for 2011-2012
  • Jorum is a shared national service for
discovering open educational resources that also
fosters the ecology of reuse of those resources
it is therefore pivotal to the achievement of
    excellence in learning and teaching.
  • Jorum Mission for 2011-2012
  • Jorum will be a repository of open resources that
is relevant to and used by the teaching
    community.

  • The Jorum User Group(s)
  • As we move forward and away from the transition
period we are keen to get more
  • users involved, along with the steering
committee, key stakeholders in the development
    and success of Jorum.
  • We are putting together two distinct but
    inter-related user groups
  • The Power User Group This group would include
those users who routinely use Jorum, are uniquely
aware of what it has to offer, understand its
processes and problems, have been depositing
resources into Jorum for some time, and are
involved in constructive dialogues to improve the
    service.
  • The Occasional User Group As the name suggests,
these are people who may be relatively new to
Jorum they would recognise the service as
    potentially something valuable, but their
experiences are limited, and they may not
necessarily see the full use-value in any
    repository of learning resources.
  • We are planning on inviting members of the OER
community, academics, and others to join one of
these two groups in the next few weeks.

8
  • We have a new steering group as well,
representing a number of institutions and
    organisations, including
  • JISC
  • The University of Leeds
  • CETIS
  • British Universities FilmVideo Council
  • UKOLN
  • Northumbria University
  • John Rylands University Library (Manchester)
  • HEA
  • HedTek

9
Jorum is working on two collaborative pilots
The Institutional Pilot emphasising what 8
specific HEs and FEs could benefit from with
stronger connections to a national repository
The Subject Pilot Similar to the above, but with
the emphasis on subject categoriesThese two
will feed directly into our development of a new
Featured Collections section on the website (and
our business case).

Being in Jorum means that your resources are
more visible in Google searches. There is also a

so if youre going to deposit, have a look, and
you may find something you can take home with you
too! Katy Jordan, Plant Sciences Pedagogy
Project, Cambridge
