The 20th century is 1900 to 1999.
  • Canada is growing up!
  • But, it is still a very young country at 33 years
    old.
  • We started with looking at how European settlers
    interacted with and treated the First Nations
    Peoples who were here when they arrived in the
    New World.
  • We then looked at how National policies of our
    Government in the late 1800s around economics and
    immigration empowered some and disempowered
    others.
  • Now, as Canada enters the 20th century, there are
    some major issues that will shape the rest of
    Canadas history and identity as a country.

The three main issues that shape Canada in the
20th Century are
  1. The Womens Rights Movement
  2. The Industrial Revolution
  3. Canadas role in World War I

    for the peoples of Canada at the turn of the 20th

  1. Use pages 212 217 to create a chart (use your
    own jot-notes) showing the daily life in the
    early 20th century.
  2. What does the term disparity mean? What is social
    disparity? Give some examples of social disparity
    that existed during this period in Canadas
    history.

  2. The Industrial Revolution can be summed up by
    looking at three big changes that affected all
    kinds of industry in the early parts of the 20th
    century. What are these three changes?
