1
ANSWERING MORE QUESTIONS
2
Who is the devil? Where did he come from? What
did he do to get kicked out of heaven?
3
Satan - adversary, one who withstands (Thayer).
4
Exodus 2011 For in six days the LORD made the
heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is
in them, and rested the seventh day. Nehemiah
96 You alone are the LORD You have made heaven,
The heaven of heavens, with all their host, The
earth and everything on it, The seas and all that
is in them, And You preserve them all.
5
Colossians 116 For by Him all things were
created that are in heaven and that are on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or
dominions or principalities or powers. All things
were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He
is before all things, and in Him all things
consist. (Also Isa. 4424 Jn. 13 Eph. 39).
6
  • In the book of Job, Satan had to gain permission
for what he could do to Job (Job 1, 2).
  • He had to ask if he could test Peter and sift him
    like wheat (Lk. 2231).
  • Jesus and His disciples were able to cast out
Satans demons from people (Lk. 1017-18).
  • Satan and his angels could not prevail against
Michael and his angels (Rev. 127-9).
  • An angel from heaven was able to bound Satan and
cast him into the bottomless pit (Rev. 201-3).
  • If a Christian resists him, he will flee (Jam.
    47).
  • In the end, Satan will be cast into hell with his
    angels (Mt. 2541).

7
Since Satans power is limited, but Gods is not
(Gen. 1814 Job 422 Jer. 3217 Mt. 1926)
proves that Satan is not Deity.
8
Genesis 131 Then God saw everything that He had
made, and indeed it was very good. 1 John 15
This is the message which we have heard from Him
and declare to you, that God is light and in Him
is no darkness at all.
9
1 John 38 He who sins is of the devil, for the
devil has sinned from the beginning.
10
What was his sin? John 844 "You are of your
father the devil, and the desires of your father
you want to do. He was a murderer from the
beginning, and does not stand in the truth,
because there is no truth in him. When he speaks
a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he
is a liar and the father of it.
11
What caused him to turn from God and sin? 1
Timothy 36 not a novice, lest being puffed up
with pride he fall into the same condemnation as
the devil.
12
1 Peter 58 Be sober, be vigilant because your
adversary the devil walks about like a roaring
lion, seeking whom he may devour.
13
2 Corinthians 113 But I fear, lest somehow, as
the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so
your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity
that is in Christ. Revelation 129 So the great
dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called
the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole
world he was cast to the earth, and his angels
were cast out with him. Revelation 202 He laid
hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is
the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand
years
14
  • He influenced David to number Israel (1 Chr.
    211).
  • He contended with God about Job (Job 1).
  • He is pictured as opposing the Angel of the Lord
    (Zech. 31).
  • He tempted Jesus to sin (Mt. 4).
  • He influenced Judas to betray Jesus (Jn. 132).
  • He influenced Ananias to lie (Acts 53).
  • He disputed with Michael over the body of Moses
    (Jude 19).
  • He and his angels fought with Michael and his
    angels (Rev. 127-9).

15
  • Satan - adversary (Job 21).
  • Devil - false accuser or slanderer because he
speaks against men (Rev. 1210) and God (Gen.
    31-5).
  • Beelzebub - lord of the house (Mt. 1224).
  • Serpent (Rev 129).
  • Prince of the powers of the air (Eph 22).
  • Abaddon (Hebrew) - destruction and Apollyon
(Greek) - destroyer (Rev 911). Most likely
    referring to Satan.
  • Belial - good for nothing (2 Cor. 615).
  • Murderer and liar (Jn. 844).
  • Prince of this world (Jn 1231).
  • God of this world (2 Cor 44).
  • The dragon (Rev 127).

16
  • Since he is not flesh and blood, he is a
spiritual being just as angels are.
  • We find Satan meeting with the sons of God (Job
16 21), which most believe is referring to
angels in the book of Job. (Sons of God can refer
    to men or angels)
  • Though Satan opposes the righteous way, his
power is limited by God (Job 1, 2) just like an
angels power is limited (1 Chr. 2127).

17
  • Satan had powers he could use when God allowed
    him (Job 111-12, 25-7)
  • He was able to direct the Sabeans and Chaldeans
to Jobs home to raid his animals and kill his
    servants (114-15, 17).
  • He was able to call down fire from heaven to kill
some more animals and servants (116).
  • He was able to cause a strong wind to blow the
house down Jobs children were in and it killed
    them (118-19).
  • He was able to cause Job to have boils form all
    over his body (27).
  • Like Satan, the angels of God were able to use
powers as well such as the two angels that struck
the men at Lots house blind (Gen. 1911).

18
  • Satan has his angels and Michael has his angels
    (Rev. 127-9 Mt. 2541).
  • Satan is able to transform himself into an angel
of light (2 Cor. 1114), which may imply that he
    is an angel of darkness.
  • If Revelation 911 is talking about Satan, which
most scholars conclude, then Satan is called the
    angel of the Abyss.
  • Revelation 911 And they had as king over them
the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in
Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name
    Apollyon.

19
2 Peter 24 For if God did not spare the angels
who sinned, but cast them down to hell and
delivered them into chains of darkness, to be
reserved for judgment Jude 16 And the angels
who did not keep their proper domain, but left
their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting
chains under darkness for the judgment of the
great day
20
Revelation 201 Then I saw an angel coming down
from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit
and a great chain in his hand. 2 He laid hold of
the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil
and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years 3
and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut
him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should
deceive the nations no more till the thousand
years were finished. But after these things he
must be released for a little while.
21
1 Corinthians 1013 No temptation has overtaken
you except such as is common to man but God is
faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted
beyond what you are able, but with the temptation
will also make the way of escape, that you may be
able to bear it.
22
  • Jesus tells us to pray so we can be delivered
from the evil one (Mt. 613).
  • We are warned about the snare of the devil (1
    Tim. 37 2 Tim. 224-26).
  • Satan can take advantage of us (2 Cor. 211).
  • Satan is roaring lion seeking to devour us (1
    Pet. 58).
  • Satan has his wiles or schemes (Eph. 611).

23
  • There are at least three ways that Satan can
tempt us to sin within natural law
  • 1 John 216 For all that is in the world -- the
lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the
pride of life -- is not of the Father but is of
    the world.
  • The lust of the flesh
  • The lust of the eyes
  • The pride of life

24
He was created by God (Col. 116), he was a
spiritual being, he was cast out of heaven (Rev.
129), and he and his angels will be cast into
hell at the day of judgment (Mt. 2541).
25
Where did angels come from?
26
Psalm 1482 Praise Him, all His angels Praise
Him, all His hosts! 3 Praise Him, sun and moon
Praise Him, all you stars of light! 4 Praise
Him, you heavens of heavens, And you waters above
the heavens! 5 Let them praise the name of the
LORD, For He commanded and they were created.
27
Job 384 " Where were you when I laid the
foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have
understanding. 5 Who determined its
measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched
the line upon it? 6 To what were its foundations
fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, 7 When
the morning stars sang together, And all the sons
of God shouted for joy?
28
Why are some angels called archangels?
29
Michaels name means, Who is like God.
30
He was the leader of angels Revelation 127 And
war broke out in heaven Michael and his angels
fought with the dragon
31
In the O.T. we learn that he is also a protector
of Gods people Daniel 1021 "But I will tell
you what is noted in the Scripture of Truth. (No
one upholds me against these, except Michael your
prince. Daniel 121 "At that time Michael
shall stand up, The great prince who stands watch
over the sons of your people
32
We see him contending and disputing with the
devil in Jude 19 Yet Michael the archangel,
in contending with the devil, when he disputed
about the body of Moses, dared not bring against
him a reviling accusation, but said, "The Lord
rebuke you!"
33
NKV 1 Thessalonians 416 For the Lord Himself
will descend from heaven with a shout, with the
voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of
God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. NIV
1 Thessalonians 416 For the Lord himself will
come down from heaven, with a loud command, with
the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet
call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise
first.

ANSWERING MORE QUESTIONS
35
Who is the devil? Where did he come from? What
did he do to get kicked out of heaven? Where did
angels come from? Why are some angels called
archangels?
36
Matthew 41 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit
into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty
nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the
tempter came to Him, he said, "If You are the Son
of God, command that these stones become bread."
4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man
shall not live by bread alone, but by every word
that proceeds from the mouth of God.' " 5 Then
the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him
on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to
Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself
down. For it is written 'He shall give His
angels charge over you,' and, 'In their hands
they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot
against a stone.' "
37
7 Jesus said to him, "It is written again, 'You
shall not tempt the LORD your God.' " 8 Again,
the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high
mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the
world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him,
"All these things I will give You if You will
fall down and worship me." 10 Then Jesus said to
him, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written,
'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him
only you shall serve.' " 11 Then the devil left
Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to
Him.
38
When Satan tells Jesus in Luke 46 that the glory
of the kingdom is his and he has the authority to
give it to anyone who will bow down. Wasnt that
a lie?
39
Luke 46 And the devil said to Him, "All this
authority I will give You, and their glory for
this has been delivered to me, and I give it to
whomever I wish.
40
We must never forget that Satan is father of lies
(Jn. 844). Three different times Jesus said
that he is the prince of the world (Jn. 1231
1430 1611). Paul said he is "the god of this
world" (2 Cor. 44).
41
In what sense is he the god and prince of this
world?
42
Matthew 2818 And Jesus came and spoke to them,
saying, "All authority has been given to Me in
heaven and on earth.
43
Did the devil tempt Jesus for the whole forty
days or did he wait until Jesus was so he didnt
care?
44
Matthew 41 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit
into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty
nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the
tempter came to Him, he said, "If You are the Son
of God, command that these stones become
bread. Mark 112 Immediately the Spirit drove
Him into the wilderness. 13 And He was there in
the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and
was with the wild beasts and the angels
ministered to Him. Luke 41 Then Jesus, being
filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the
Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the
wilderness, 2 being tempted for forty days by
the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and
afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry. 3
And the devil said to Him, "If You are the Son of
God, command this stone to become bread."
45
Who is Psalm 91 talking to? It seems the devil
and Jesus both recognized that it was talking
about Jesus?
46
Matthew 45 Then the devil took Him up into the
holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple,
6 and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God,
throw Yourself down. For it is written 'He shall
give His angels charge over you,' and, 'In their
hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your
foot against a stone.' "
47
Psalm 911 He who dwells in the secret place of
the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the
Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my
refuge and my fortress My God, in Him I will
trust."
48
Psalm 913 Surely He shall deliver you from the
snare of the fowler And from the perilous
pestilence. 4 He shall cover you with His
feathers, And under His wings you shall take
refuge His truth shall be your shield and
buckler. 5 You shall not be afraid of the terror
by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, 6
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor
of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. 7
A thousand may fall at your side, And ten
thousand at your right hand But it shall not
come near you. 8 Only with your eyes shall you
look, And see the reward of the wicked. 9
Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place, 10 No
evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come
near your dwelling
49
Psalm 9111 For He shall give His angels charge
over you, To keep you in all your ways. 12 In
their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash
your foot against a stone. 13 You shall tread
upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and
the serpent you shall trample underfoot. 14
"Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I
will deliver him I will set him on high, because
he has known My name. 15 He shall call upon Me,
and I will answer him I will be with him in
trouble I will deliver him and honor him. 16
With long life I will satisfy him, And show him
My salvation."
50
Matthew 47 Jesus said to him, "It is written
again, 'You shall not tempt the LORD your God.' "
51
Luke 1622 "So it was that the beggar died, and
was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom.
52
Hebrews 113 But to which of the angels has He
ever said "Sit at My right hand, Till I make
Your enemies Your footstool"? 14 Are they not
all ministering spirits sent forth to minister
for those who will inherit salvation? Matthew
1810 " Take heed that you do not despise one of
these little ones, for I say to you that in
heaven their angels always see the face of My
Father who is in heaven.
53
Matthew 1341 "The Son of Man will send out His
angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom
all things that offend, and those who practice
lawlessness, 42 "and will cast them into the
furnace of fire. There will be wailing and
gnashing of teeth.
54
15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him
I will be with him in trouble I will deliver him
and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy
him, And show him My salvation."
55
Matthew 2642 "O My Father, if this cup cannot
pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be
done."
