    together.
  • Use COORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS to join sentences.
  • Use a comma BEFORE a coordinating conjunction to
separate the first sentence from the second.

Compounds
  • So, what is a
  • COORDINATING CONJUNCTION?
  • They are words used to join parts of sentences.
  • Just remember FANBOYS!
  • For And Nor But Or Yet So

7
Compounds
  • Heres how compound sentences work
  • 1. Take 2 simple sentences
  • My dog runs all day.
  • He is in good shape.
  • 2. Choose a coordinating conjunction that
    would best
  • join the sentences.
  • So
  • 3. Write the first sentence, add a COMMA and
  • the conjunction.
  • My dog runs all day, so
  • 4. Write the second sentence.
  • My dog runs all day, so he is in
    good shape.

8
Compounds
  • Remember, a COMPOUND sentence MUST have TWO
    complete sentences.
  • YES My dad is big, and he is kind.
  • NO My dad is big and kind.
  • Dont use a comma for sentences using FANBOYS if
there arent 2 complete sentences (one before the
    conjunction and one after it)!

9
