History
  • 1804, Bozzini developed the first reproducible
    device to illuminate dark cavities previously
    unseen in the living body.
  • 1875, Nitze and Leiter laid the foundation for
    the modern urologic endoscope.
  • 1901, Kelling a surgeon who was the first to
    apply Nitze's cystoscope, introduced through a
    trocar, in a closed-cavity endoscopic examination
    of a living dog.
  • 1910, Jacobius used room air to fill the abdomen
    and then inserted a laparoscope to assist with
    the diagnosis of ascites.

  • 1974, Semm a German gynecologist, is recognized
    as the "father" of modern-day laparoscopy owing
    to his broad development of laparoscopic
    operative techniques and instruments.
  • 1976, Cortesi used the laparoscope in pediatric
    to explore undescended testes
  • 1983, Semm removed an appendix laparoscopically.
  • 1987, Mouret of Lyon performed the first
    clinical laparoscopic cholecystectomy .
  • 1989, William Schuessler did the first urologic
    laparoscopic procedure the pelvic LND for
    patients with prostate cancer.
  • 1990, Clayman did the first laparoscopic
    nephrectomy.

    in Urology. This includes

  • radical nephrectomy
  • Reconstructive techniques
  • pyeloplasty.
  • Both
  • radical prostatectomy.
  • radical cystectomy.

  • A 57 yr old presented with right sided flank pain
    and micro heamaturia. Was found to have mid pole
    5 cm solid R renal mass. Otherwise healthy.
