When You Come Together
  • How often should we assemble?
  • How often does first day of the week occur?
Cf. Exodus 208, Remember the Sabbath day How
    often?
  • Because nothing else is stated, it is implied
that EVERY first day of the week is a day of
    assembly.

4
When You Come Together
  • Other thoughts on the first day of the week
  • Christ arose on that day, Matt. 281, Jn. 241,
    etc.
  • Pentecost was on that day, Lev. 2315, Deut.
    169-10

5
When You Come Together
  • Assembling is NOT an option
  • Heb. 1024-25
  • Assembling is clearly something they did
    regularly

6
Divisions in Their Midst
  • The worship service ought to unite us!
  • 1 Cor. 1212-27
  • Sadly, there is not unity in every congregation,
    i.e. the party spirit.
  • Sometimes doctrinal differences

7
Divisions in Their Midst
  • The worship service ought to unite us!
  • 1 Cor. 1212-27
  • Sadly, there is not unity in every congregation,
    i.e. the party spirit.
  • Sometimes doctrinal differences

8
Divisions in Their Midst
  • IN our text
  • Abuses concerning the Lords Supper and social
    factions

9
Divisions in Their Midst
  • 1119Can good come out of division?
  • Repentance from errors
  • Exposing those not interested in truth
  • Strengthening resolve to do right.
  • A combination of the above

10
Divisions in Their Midst
  • Matt. 1347-52 Within the kingdom there is
    good and bad
  • Similarly, Gods word can distinguish the good
from the bad Heb. 412, 2 Tim. 215, Eph. 58-13

11
Divisions in Their Midst
  • Doctrinal issues will come.
  • Such serve to confirm ones own faith.
  • The result can be either a resolve that you have
been doing right, or a realization for the need
    to repent.

12
They were NOT eating the Lords Supper
  • Stated so as to imply what they OUGHT to be
doing, but they were not doing that!

13
They were NOT eating the Lords Supper
  • How is the Lords Supper to be observed?
  • WHEN? Acts 207, on the first day of the week
  • No indication of a special service. See
context of Acts 201-7 our context

14
They were NOT eating the Lords Supper
  • How is the Lords Supper to be observed?
  • NOT a common meal! (1123-26)
  • It was a memorial meal
  • Done when they came together as the church!

15
They were NOT eating the Lords Supper
  • Their abuse
  • It was more like a covered dish dinner
  • They were not doing it together despising the
    poor
  • Pauls reaction, eat at home!

16
They were NOT eating the Lords Supper
  • Lesson
  • The assembly is NOT a social occasion. It is a
time to solemnly worship God. Rom. 1417
  • We WILL be edified, but only as we properly
    praise Him

17
They were NOT eating the Lords Supper
  • Lesson
  • Does our conduct despise the church of God?
    1122
  • NO praise when such conduct is present.

18
As we worship God
  • may we seek to completely respect His pattern!
