RAST Resolution 10/2-3Generic Standards
  • RAST Resolution 10/2-3 - resolves 2 (c)
  • facilitate innovation and simplify market access
    by the
  • adoption of generic standards for such products
    which
  • provide basic product definition intended for
    radio
  • co-existence that can be used for compliance or
    approval
  • regimes offering global applicability
  • The objective is to agree on common generic
specifications for low power/short range devices,
and where appropriate seek harmonised spectrum
    allocations on a global basis
  • The availability of generic standards facilitates
the introduction of new technologies, in domestic
    and business environments

Frequency Allocations for Short Range Devices
(SRDs) in Europe
  • CEPT Administrations, working within the
    Electronic Communications Committee (CEPT-ECC),
    co-operate to harmonise their National
    regulations.  The ECC Short-Range Devices
    Maintenance Group (SRDMG) maintains
  • ERC Recommendation 70-03, which CEPT
Administrations are encouraged to implement in
order to maximise freedom of movement for
    radiocommunications equipment
  • CEPT Recommendations and Decisions can be
    downloaded from the European Radiocommunications
    Office web site http//www.ero.dk/

7
Short Range Devices (SRDs) in Europe CEPT
Recommendation 70-03
  • ERC RECOMMENDATION 70-03
  • RELATING TO THE USE OF SHORT RANGE
  • DEVICES (SRD)
  • The Applications covered by this Recommendation
    are
  • Annex 1 - Non-specific Short Range Devices
  • Annex 2 - Equipment for Detecting Avalanche
    Victims
  • Annex 3 - Local Area Networks, RLANs and
    HIPERLANs
  • Annex 4 - Automatic Vehicle Identification for
    Railways
  • (AVI)
  • Annex 5 - Road Transport Traffic Telematics
    (RTTT)

    Implants
  • Annex 13 - Wireless Audio Applications

9
Generic Standards and SRDs
  • The concept of Generic Standards for Short Range
    (low power)
  • Devices (SRDs) facilities innovation and
    minimises regulation
  • The CEPT Recommendation 70-03 covers a full range
    of SRDs as indicated,
  • ETSI in turn also provides a range of product
    specific SRD standards
  • to facilitate these applications
  • Details are provided in the following slides
  • The ETSI report on Spectrum Use - TR 102 137 -
    Use of Radio
  • Frequency Spectrum by Equipment meeting ETSI
    Standards
  • provides details of the relevant each frequency
    band and regulatory
  • information

Conclusion
  • Generic Standards are valuable tools that provide
    for
  • early market access for new and innovative
    products
  • In many cases a product specific standard will be
  • required where the generic document can be used
    as a
  • base from which to develop a product specific
    variant
  • ETSI is committed to providing the market with
    the
  • standards required in a timely manner
  • Generic standards assist in achieving this goal
