26Political and religious views
- The political debate is whether to allow
scientists to extract stem cells from surplus,
unneeded, frozen embryos left over from in-vitro
fertilization procedures in fertility clinics
Conservative Christian groups opposed Bush's
decision because of the fine line between used
descendents of already-extracted stem cells, and
killing of new embryos.
27Stem cell research allows scientist to reproduce
body organs and tissue replacing damaged or
missing nerves or cells.
Funding is needed to support research and testing
in labs
28In September 2000 President George Bush denies
funds for any form of stem cell research
Bush changes his mind in August 2001 allowing
funding but only to old embryos
29In February 2008 researchers at Stanford
University School of Medicine in California saved
multiple lab rats which had suffered a stroke
medical stem cell rebuilding can save lives cure
people from certain disease and handicaps
30There is so much to be learned and not enough
support.scientist have only touched on the
surface of stem cell research.
31Who knows what the future holds?
