The legend of this holiday

• Valentines Day originated in ancient Rome. A
  long, long time ago, the Roman emperor Claudius
  said that men should not get married, that they
  should only serve in the army.

• Claudius thought that wives were a problem.
  St.Valentine, a priest, felt bad for the men and
  helped them to get married secretly.
• This made Claudius angry, so he had
  St.Valentine put in jail.

• The children of Rome were very sad that
  St.Valentine was in jail. They wrote him notes
  saying, We love you and We miss you and
  pushed them through the bars of his cell. These
  were the first valentines.
