Sugar Act (1764)
  • Took the place of the Molasses Act and targeted
    the raising of revenues from the colonists.
  • Colonists protested and called for a boycott of
    the items with duties.
  • Stamp Act is suggested.

  • Proposed by Prime Minister George Grenville
  • Passed by Parliament in 1765
  • Required British subjects to pay for a stamp on
    legal papers and various printed materials.
  • Governor Tryon was unable to convince merchants
