Brief History Around the turn of the century the
world was experiencing a profound increase in a
growing middle class. The result of more people
having more leisure time and money led to an
explosion of decorative art, architecture, and
fashion. Art Deco is based on the repetition of
mathematical geometric shapes. It was considered
to be an eclectic form of elegant and stylish
modernism.

Art Deco Painting Step 1 In your sketchbook draw
three thumbnails (small rough sketches) of ideas
for your abstract art deco design. Use some of
the motifs you have seen in the art deco
PowerPoint. Use repeated circular and or square
shapes, various kinds of lines, or organic
shapes. Your design should be interesting and
fill the whole page.

Finished Piece Neat tidy stokes have been used to apply the paint. No parts seem rushed or messy. Paper is not folded, ripped or wrinkled.
