Format Heading and Title
  • In the upper left corner please include the
    following
  • Your Name
  • My Name
  • The Date
  • The Class Period
  • Centered on the top line of your paper you should
    include
  • A title ( example Baseball is the Greatest Sport
    Ever)

Format How it should look
  • Please skip one line, underneath your title, and
    begin your essay.
  • Make sure to indent the very first line of
    Every Paragraph.
  • S P A C I N G
  • Double Space this essay!!!
  • This means to skip a line between EVERY
    SENTENCE!!! I know its only 1 line..but it is
    still called double spacing!!!

Grammar and Spelling
  • As this is a Grammar and Composition class, I
    expect your essays to be Free from Grammatical
    and Spelling Errors.
  • Watch out for the following
  • Punctuation Errors
  • Contractions
  • Numbers
  • Runs-on and fragment sentences
  • Apostrophe mistakes
  • Abbreviations

  • EVERY Introduction paragraph should include the
    following
  • A Hook
  • A hook should be the first sentence you write!!
  • It is called A Hook because it is intended to
    grab the attention.
  • A Significance
  • A significance is a statement of why it is
    important to YOU!!!

  • Your Thesis is the Main Idea or The Purpose
    of your essay!!!
  • Your thesis should include
  • The 3 supporting details
  • -which-
  • Will become the topics of
  • Your Body Paragraphs
  • But..thats for another day!!

  • that the thesis should be located at

  • of your introduction

Transitional Words
  • Transitions are words and phrases that help
    connect sentences in a sensible manner.
  • Common Transitions

  • although how therefore
  • however for example here
  • then like next

Where to use Transitions
  • The introduction and concluding paragraphs
    should include
  • 1 transitional word each
  • Body paragraphs should each contain
  • 2 transitional words

What is a Body Paragraph
  • The body paragraphs of your persuasive essay are
    your Supporting Detail
  • paragraphs.
  • Basically, each paragraph is an extension of one
    of the points of discussion you mention in your
    thesis.

WHAT should each paragraph include???
  • BODY PARAGRAPH 1
  • A Topic Sentence-
  • Restating the first point of discussion from your
    thesis.
  • A Detail-
  • Stating a fact about the topic of the
    paragraph.

  • A Second Detail-
  • Stating another fact about the topic of the
    paragraph.
  • A Third Detail-
  • Stating yet another fact about he topic of the
    paragraph.
  • A Fourth Detail-
  • (you guessed it) Stating yet another fact

  • A CLINCHER sentence-
  • Which should restate the first topic from your
    thesis!!
  • The point of the Clincher sentence
  • is to solidify
  • the point of each paragraph!!
