- Purpose of Writing
- Matthews purpose of writing is plain to
present Jesus as the Messiah so that his readers
can put their faith in him. His primary audience
is Jewish, composed both of those Jews still
living in Israel and those who had scattered
around the empire. Matthew quotes more from the
Old Testament than any other gospel writer.

- Place in the Canon
- Historically, Matthew hands down to us the
essence of Jesus teachings, miracles and life. - Theologically, we are taught that Jesus is the
true king who fulfills in himself all
righteousness. - Devotionally, we are led to worship Jesus and
obey him as our king.
