2
Physical Characteristics
  • The harp seal is a very interesting animal. The
harp seal is white, black, and gray.It can live
up to 30 to 35 years. They can weigh up to 280
pounds, and they get upto 6 feet long, fully
    grown.

3
Habitat
  • The harp seal lives in the Arctic, but sometimes
they swim all the way to Greenland because of the
short food supply of fish. They have a single
pup.The babies are born on the ice, but theyspend
most of their time in the water.

4
Diet
  • The harp seals diet is fish, crustaceans,
capelin, krill, cod, and plankton. It doesnt
chew, but it swallows large chunks. It uses its
flat back teeth to crush shells.

5
Predators
  • The harp seal has quite a few predators.
  • Its predators are Orcas or Killer whales,
  • Polar bears, Sharks, and Humans. We
  • humans are the biggest problem, because
  • we have killed most of the pups for their
  • fur.

6
Natural History
  • The harp seal will keep a range of its prey and
predators. It depends by age, of howmuch the
    harp seal will eat.

7
Threats to the Species
  • The harp seal has many threats to it, like over
fishing and theyre also culled. They are
hunted annually, and people use their fur for
    coats, and other things.

8
Interesting Facts
  • There are a few interesting facts about the harp
seal. First, if a baby harp seal eats, its teeth
grow and if doesnt eat its teeth dont grow.
Second, the baby is born with a yellow coat, and
thats why its called a yellow coat. Third, the
harp seal gets its name from the shape on its
back, that looks like a harp from above.
