Flags are symbols. Texas has had six different
flags in its history.
Spanish - 1519-1685. French - 1685-1690.
Spanish - 1690-1821. Mexican - 1821-1836.
Republic of Texas - 1836-1845. United States -
1845-1861. Confederate States - 1861-1865.
United States - 1865 to the present.

The Lone Star Flag The state flag's colors
represent the same virtues as they do in the
national flag Red means bravery white, purity
and blue, loyalty.
Texas has a nickname. It is known as the Lone
Star State.

We say the Texas pledge. "Honor the Texas
flag I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one
state under God, one and indivisible."

This monument is for the Battle at San Jacinto.
Sam Houston led the Texans to victory for
Independence when they won the battle at San
Jacinto.

The state flower of Texas is the bluebonnet. It
is also called buffalo clover, wolf flower and el
conejo (the rabbit). The bluebonnet was adopted
as the state flower, on request of the Society of
Colonial Dames in Texas, by the 27th Legislature,
1901.

State Tree Pecan What led to its official
adoption probably grew out of the request of Gov.
James Stephen Hogg that a pecan tree be planted
at his grave.

The Texas motto is..Friendship! The word,
Texas, or Tejas, was the Spanish pronunciation of
a Caddo Indian word meaning "friends" or
"allies."
